I've got this Prairie Home Companion feature I've been piddling around with for the last couple of days, and a big interview piece with Alejandro Gonzalez Innaritu about Babel (which I'll be running on Monday evening, a day before the start of the Cannes Film Festival), and that piece about who dies (and why) in big disaster films that'll run on Sunday...and I can't seem to make myself grind 'em out. It's a bitch.

So, is Prairie Home Companion any good? Impressive cast, the trailer looks entertaining... but I can't help having the feeling that it's the movie equivalent of those moments during a public radio pledge drive when they start telling you how wonderful they themselves are.

I'm a POSEIDON ADVENTURE freak, I even bought the terrible Steve Guttenberg miniseries on DVD (a great cast of 80s hams: Bryan Brown, Rutger Hauer, Peter Weller, C. Thomas Howell) AND the new May 9th DVD reissue.
I'm looking foward to seeing POSEIDON but all the distressing reviews are kinda bringing me down. Needless to say, I'm looking forward to you 'distaster movie piece' Jeffrey.
Great site, btw. Best wishes.

Yes, please, let us know the general scoop on A Prairie Home Companion--as Mike Gebert says, the trailer is one of the most entertaining in ages and it *looks* good from afar...
Also hotly anticipating word on Babel; I loved Amores Perros and 21 Grams, so I have to imagine this is going to be another slice of greatness.
