Sandler's Time

Forbes has reported that Adam Sandler made $29 million between June '05 and June '06. But a new year has begun, so to speak, and Adam needs to start working on the next $29 million . That's where the fans fit in. We need to go out and support Sandler's Click (Columbia, 6.23) to keep the bandwagon rolling.

Obviously we aren't obliged to do this, but shouldn't we? Don't we owe it to the guy? Sandler needs to keep rolling in clover, and he isn't going to be pulling down the monster bucks forever -- he's working within a limited window (as we all are), and now's the time.

I liked him on SNL, but I just couldn't bother seeing him in his movies. The same with Mike Meyers-with the exception of Wayne's World.

I just don't get the appeal of Sandler. He always plays the same angry, infantile character. The movies are so one note and forgettable that you leave the theatre wondering if it was all just a bad dream.

I love Sandler, I grew up with his movie so I always try to root for him. That being said, I saw CLICK last week and it's prob the worse movie he has ever made. The funniest parts are in the trailer, and the film turns into a horrendous schmaltz fest in the last 1/3. Terrible all around.

Punch-Drunk Love is a classic in my opinion, although I would classify it more as a PT Anderson pic, instead of a Sandler film. Yet I'm not sure any actor could have pulled off that role quite as well as Sandler did.
I don't have a problem with his silly stuff. I don't go out of my way to see it (although I have a weak spot for Little Nicky of all things). The only one I've found truly insufferable was 50 First Dates.

As for Click, well, it looks okay. It's got Walken, so I may go just to watch him. He's always fun to watch.

I thought Punch-Drunk Love was supposed to be a sort of capper/encapsulation of the previous Sandler comedy formula, as well as an alternate take on the frustrated man-child character he has made his trademark. To go back to doing the same old schtick after having seemingly transcended it (or at least having taken it to its logical conclusion), feels a bit counter-productive artistically, and needless, save for the allure of the almighty dollar.

I was previously married to a Sandler fanatic. Quoted lines from his movies to death. One great thing is that I don't have to listen to those "funny" comments anymore. My new boyfriend hates Sandler as much as I do and it is wonderful to not have to pretend anymore. So any movie that Sandler comes out with is OK with me because my ex's new girlfriend get the brunt of it now.

Sandler's End? says ...

Sandler flicks have always been wretched and juvenille, thus their continued success. But "Click" looks like the kind of fourth rate trash he pawns off on Rob Schneider or David Spade. A magic remote movie? I can see even Sandler's fans labeling this one as lame. It looks witless and tired even by Sandler's bargain basement standards. If it opens huge, then so be it and the Sandler train rolls on for another year. But would it be too much to hope for to see this one bite the dust fast and without fanfare? Or are we doomed to endure Sandler forever? A sort of idiot world version of Tom hanks.

If Jim Carrey can still make a shitload of money while making formula comedies that just get lazier and lazier, so can Sandler. The bottom will fall out on both of em at the same time. Sandler has the upper edge with Happy Madison productions in terms of survival thru 2010.

Is this the film where he talks like he's 6 years old? Oh wait, that's all his films. If I want to hear baby talk , I'll hang out with my 4 year old nephew.

His success proves that millions of people CAN be wrong.

Adam Sandler's success is further proof that millions of people CAN be wrong.

Did anyone see Grandma's Boy, surprisingly funny. I had the lowest of expectations, but I rented it last weekend and it was funnier then anything Spade, Schneider, and Sandler have done the past few years combined.
