"Superman" loss
A "pretty significant sequence" was cut by director Bryan Singer from Superman Returns that will turn up on the "special edition" DVD. Singer calls it "kind of a fun look into Superman's journey off the Earth into space." Big deal.

"Big deal."
Why mention it then?

Jeff, you haven't seen the movie, you haven't seen the script, and you have no idea how this sequence relates to the film and what value it might have for the viewer. Yet you slag it off. Typical BS. Especially pointless after you copped a spoiler without warning the other week from an equally vapid and sourceless Fox News piece.
Sometimes this website sparks interesting debate but lately it's just you hacking away with mindless vitriol and a lack of real journalistic ethics.

Hey X, you aren't Bryan Singer by any chance, are you?
Seriously though, you don't need to have seen the movie or read the script to feel ambivalent about a deleted scene. If the scene was such an auteur-level piece of filmmaking that fit in well with the movie as a whole, and had great value for the viewer, wouldn't it have been left in?

The footage from Superman Returns shown tonight on the MTV Movie was incredible!!! I think there's a link on the "overdrive" mtv website. It was of Superman saving a plane falling out of the sky and it looked, honest to god, absolutely stunning!

I have to echo the first sentiment - if it's no big deal, why mention it all? This is the first I've heard of it, so if you hadn't have made such a "big deal" about it being no big deal we wouldn't be talking about it in the first place.
And yes, unless you have seen the film or read the fucking script, not to mention seen the scene being discussed then it is rather pointless to discuss the merits of said scene. Make even a short film sometime and you'll discover why you sometimes have to ditch a great scene you like or love if it doesn't work well within the film.
Listen to the commentaries on endless DVD's where the director has commented on specific scenes he left out and you'll realize that this happens frequently, mostly in terms of the pacing of a film where a scene breaks the narrative flow.

Thing is, if you read the article there is a really valid point about studios "double dipping" with these special edition DVDs that include just enough material to get fans to buy another copy of a movie.
I say, if they want to play that game, get yourself a burner for your PC, download one of several free programs and rip a rental copy until the actual special edition comes out.

singer seems happy to partake in studio spin, dangling carrots for geeks to build hype on top of hype. big deal? i'd say, 'who gives a shit?' let's see if your fucking movie is any good first!

cut scenes on dvd's are always interesting, in some cases they can add to the film like director Zack Synders Dawn of the dead remake. Every extra scene put back in the film made it even better.
Can you imagine a directors cut of Poseidon. There has to be a good 30 minutes of backstory footage that they obviously cut simply to shorten the movie.
Director Wolfgang Peterson recently admitted it in an interview. Id love to see it.
