A sudden extraordinary surge of interest in You, Me and Dupree is showing up in today's tracking. From last Sunday's polling to Wednesday's (i.e., yesterday's) , it went from 71 general awareness and 25 definite interest to 81 general and 37 definite -- a big-ass jump. And it all happened last weekend. Surges like this are rare, and are usually due to a change in the TV ad campaign when they happen. This may be an aberration, or maybe it's just more evidence that people don't pay attention to upcoming films until they're a week away from opening. So it's looking for a half-decent Dupree opening, but more in the range of $15 million rather than $20 million. Maybe.

Is Little Man tracking above or below Dupree?

I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but before this week, I had no idea that Michael Douglas was in this movie. Now, all of a sudden, every time I see something about the movie, I see his name.

Perhaps a lot of theaters showed the trailer before POTC?

I've also noticed direct references to The Wedding Crashers in the newest ads...

Good point, lesterg. There's that commercial now running that says something like, "Last summer, he crashed weddings (and I think actually showed footage from WC. This summer, he's crashing a marriage."

I think they are going after the late-teens/early 20's block (my block) of viewers who only see a couple of movies a year and are usually junk-food comedies and action movies.
I think more girls will show up than anticipated. I know girls were a big factor of Wedding Crasher's success.

Compared to "Little Man" "Dupree" looks like high art and that's not saying much. I know my wife is interested in "Dupree" so I'll tag along, but not until it gets to our $3 second run beer pub theater.
Does anyone think "Little Man" looks even marginally interesting? "White Chicks" had a couple moments, but was still horrible.

Yeah, but Little Man is going to own the teen and slow adult audience (the Scary Movie demo). The question is if it's going to come in 2nd or 3rd. You'll also have Prada and Superman battling for 4th.

My 18 year-old daughter loves this crap (White Chicks, Little Man)... I've tried, but just don't find this obvious, unbelievable comedy style funny. The best comedy I've seen lately is "Two and a Half Men" and the replays of Monty Python on Public Television.

does the tracking show the exact dollar amount the film will make? i'm stymied. 15.6 million or 16.2? i'm leaning towards 16.7.888. we must know NOW. can't wait that whole day. because if we knew yesterday it might make 15.9, then...uh...then...uh...
