Given the imaginative, heavily visual, time-trippy story and all, you'd think that Darren Aronofsky's The Fountain (Warner Bros., 10.13) would be receiving some kind of promotion with the fans at Comic Con next weekend. Here, in any event, is the poster by the way of joblow.com.

Let's just hope it won't flop like Lady in the Water.

what's up with that poster? You'll see it's really a bad photoshop job if you view the hi-res version on that site

With Superman Returns not flying higher than anticipated, Poseidon sinking like concrete, and Lady in the Water wet before delivery, somehow The Fountain doesn't feel like "the one" to pull Warner Bros out of their current box-office malaise.

That's not a photoshop job. It's an actual frame from the film dude!

Yep. I think Aronofsky from what I've seen is going for that Ken Russell "Altered States" thing. I have no doubt people will complain that the effects upon release will look "cheap and dated" when in fact that's exactly what the filmmakers were striving for (well not "cheap and dated" but you know what I mean).

It may not be the one to pull WB out of its funk, but at a $35 million budget, there's not that much downside for a major release.
Devin's embargo-breaking review at CHUD reported that the effects look great, incidentally.

I am sooooooo happy to see that they're doing the 3rd movie version of Natalie Babbitt's "Tuck Everlasting," although this one appears to use her novel as source material without the proper credit.
