Lohan's mom

An Access Hollywood piece set to air this evening reportedly quotes Lindsay Lohan's manager-mom Dina as saying that the wording in the letter sent to her daughter last week (i.e., the one warning Lindsay to cool it on the partying and missing work or else) by Morgan Creek honcho James Robinson was "way out of line" and "ridiculous." She reportedly added, "Maybe [Robinson] has personal issues with whomever and it came out with my child. I don't know him. I can't judge him. I don't think it was a smart thing to do to a young girl."

Speaking as a parent, this tells me three things are probably in place. One, Dina is dug into the role of being her daughter's friend and supporter as opposed to being her parent, and this mindset doesn't allow for dealing with her daughter's issues. Two, she's probably some kind of seminal laissez-faire provocateur as far as her daughter's past nocturnal proclivities are concerned. And three, she's a present-tense enabler of same. When (I'm not even saying "if") Lindsay winds up with the inevitable substance-abuse issues and goes into rehab and all that, there will probably be people other than her mom who will provide the right kind of counsel and support. I mean, look at Dina's photo above (she's the blonde on the right). Consider that smile on her face. She's obviously a hottie who's obviously open to glamour and lusciousness and sparkling encounters.

The sad thing is, all over America parents are writing letters to their school principals saying how unfair it was that little Courtney got an F in Algebra just because she was giving 110% of herself to the cheerleading squad and this is really going to hurt her chances to get into Yale and by the way, we've contacted a lawyer... The elder Skankess Lohan has just made herself one of the most despised parents in America with her whining missive, but the only difference between her and lots of others enabling their childrens' irresponsibility is the fact that she's doing it in public.

Jeff: Spot on about Lohan AND her mother. From what I've heard from people who've worked with her in the last 18 months, Robinson's letter was entirely necessary. If you look at the sad history of this family, is it any surprise that it's come to this? The only thing more sad is the fact that those who should care and take action are ignoring the fact that it's "come to this." Fucking whores, the lot of 'em.

And the fact that her daughter's talent and earning abilty gives her the kind of coercive leverage where this ridiculous letter actually has a minimal amount of clout.

Dave at Garfield Ridge says ...

Far be it for anyone to complain how a mother raises her child, but a few things:

First and foremost, Lindsay Lohan IS NOT A CHILD. She's an adult. She doesn't need her mother to defend her, nor should anyone pay much attention to what her mother says. It's Lohan's life, not her mother's.

Second, that Morgan Creek letter may have been theatrically harsh, but if even one-tenth of the gossip rumors about Lohan are true, it was overdue. Yes, Lohan is young, but again, she is an adult. She has a job-- and an income-- millions of Americans would kill for. I'll reserve judgment on whether she has any actual talent, but ask most anyone who had that opportunity what they would do with it, and they'd reply "work my ass off to make sure I made the most of it." And any parent worthy of the name would be right behind their son or daughter, kicking their ass out of bed (or gauche hotels) to make the most of their life-- even if the parent never saw a single dime of that money.

Can people have fun? Yes. Can people goof off? Yes. Can people skip work every once in a while? Sure, most people do from time to time. But at a certain point, you have to "cowboy up" and assume responsibility for your actions. *Especially* when those actions provide for the livelihood of others-- as the Morgan Creek letter made clear, when Lindsay Lohan calls in "heat exhaustion," she's costing other people their salaries, people with mortgages and college funds.

Lindsay Lohan can be a spoiled brat all she wants-- it's a free country, she has the money to lead that life if that's what she wants out of it. But no one can be a spoiled brat on someone else's time & dime and expect anything less than condemnation and ridicule.

Cheers,
Dave at Garfield Ridge

It's funny, you take a look at a generation's given group of actors/actresses, there's always a few that end up like this. Usually they're 14 when their mommy defends them. Honestly, other than the fact that she did Disney movies when she was younger, the difference between her and Paris Hilton is Paris had a movie that actually sold with her as the star.
Sucks, ahem, to be her.

What people probably don't realize about Lohan is that she is becoming an incredible insurance liability. Films are insured just like everything else, when actors don't show up or show up wasted, it hurts their "credit" so to speak. In doing so, it makes it harder for productions to hire them in the future because they make the insurance premium go up.

Robert Downey Jr. has made more than a few bad choices, and abused a whole host of illegal substances. But do you know why he is still insurable? He never missed a day on set because of his poor choices.

Her mom has been with her at Rat's house while she was doing coke. Plus, she was also bombed out of her fucking mind at 2AM last Tuesday. This is just pathetic damage control. She's lucky Mel Gibson's shenanigans are overshadowing her total lack of professional responsibility as of late.

Trailer trash Lindsay and her Non-Mom both need to get a grip on reality. Lindsay is NOT teflon, she is not the most important person in Hollywood, and she absolutely deserved this lashing from Robinson. Morgan Creek hired her to be a professional actor, to show up and do the work, and to work under certain terms. Which she refused to do. Unless she's a sociopath, she should be capable of accepting there are consequences to her actions in life. She needs to suck it up and pull it together.

Lindsay Lohan should go to college. In college, she can drink and party and sleep late and have fun! And perhaps, not be held accountable for her actions.

But Lindsay works. She has people dependent on her to complete movies. I think producers will not want this girl on their film after this regardless if she shows up on time or not. There are too many BETTER actresses out there.

I love Mike Gebert's response. I am an Algebra teacher and you wouldn't believe the excuses I get from parents. I just wish some of them would stop trying so hard to be their kids best friends. They have a lifetime to become best friends, but when their kids are teenagers, they need to be PARENTS!

Jtag, I always think that too, after encountering the parents in our "Stroller City" Park Slope neighborhood, who always give off the impression of being very worried and anxious their kids won't like them. These are toddlers we're talking about. Such a weird and ineffective approach to parenting.

so funny...all of this fuss over a Gary Marshall movie! I mean yeah, money is on the line and what not, but damn, the irony is that the movie will probably be a major turd. The plot description is so been-there-done-that. But in any event, Lohan seems to be a mess and has been for months...this letter is no real surprise. I thought it was funny as hell and I'm glad that someone like Lohan got ripped to shreds by a producer. She's out and about every night drinking and snorting and fooling around...basically a liability to anyone she works for. And she's only OK in my eyes...slightly overrated as a hottie (the only time she has looked "hot" was in Mean Girls) and other than Prairie Home Companion, she hasn't really been asked to act yet. We'll see, but I think she's just another young, dumb, slutty actress-glamour poser who will be over in 5 years or less.

If Lindsay Lohan ever gets another acting job in Hollywood (outside of porno - and even those girls, snow capped nostrils and all, are way more professional), then this is the stupidest industry in the world. I don't think she's that good of an actress and I don't think she's that hot, either. If Hollywood can't do better than Lindsay Lohan, then it deserves what it gets. This chick is out of control and no one has had the balls to do anything about until - until now. I applaud Robinson. I think his cinematic taste is in the toilet and you couldn't pay me to make a film for that company - but damn if he isn't right on the money this time. Lohan is trailer trash that got lucky and she's pissing in the eye of this business and everyone who actually aspires to professionalism. Lindsay, whiny babe, you want to get fucked up, do it on your own time, either on weekends or between shows. You don't have the right to mess with an entire production's livelihood or artistic contributions. If I was Robinson, I would fire your ass, hire another actress in your place and reshoot every fucking frame that your boney, unattractive, coke emaciated ass appears in. Van Nuys and a wonderful career in adult entertainment beckons just over the hill.

The thing is, Lohan DOES have screen talent, and screen charisma. It's going to take the right script and a no-nonsense director to bring everything together. Wait for it.

Why should we wait for it? The Lindsay Lohans are a dime a dozen in Hollywood. There's a dozen well behaved, appreciative Lindsay's lining up to take her next gig as I write this. She's just turned herself into a major insurance risk, and as a director I'd never suggest her for a role, nor would I fight for her -- knowing all I'd get for it was a kick in the pants. In my estimate, she's over for a couple of years. Maybe they'll put up with her shit in series TV for a while, but I don't think she's got that much of a following (outside of the tabloids) that she'll be missed in the feature world. Maybe if she gets naked in her next role, there will be a salacious interest in seeing the "goods," but I think it's all downhill from here.

I don't know if I'd call being an actress important but the point is well made. The painful truth of it is that she is talented and that talent is being squandered, thanks to the antics of her array of handlers and publicists and the rest on the Lindsay Lohan Gravy Train . . . lots of money to be made off a young actress self destructing publically. Once she's over and done with they'll move on and latch onto the next food source like the Lampreys they are.

She needs a parent. Not a friend. Not a drinking buddy.

What's disgusting is how Lindsay's Lampreys are actually upset with Robinson, whose letter should be seen as something that could help Lindsay sober up and grow up. They should be thanking him, not insulting him. But it seems her handlers would rather have everyone just shut up and buy drinks for Lindsay instead, like people did for little 10 year old Drew Barrymore.

"Lindsay's Lampreys?" Good one!

The best intervention she can get is for someone to sit her down and show her Teen Beat, Tiger Beat and People magazines from, say 1988. The endless processions of Haims and Feldmans alone will scare her straight . . .

Once upon a time...

A young actress got her first real break in a big Hollywood picture. But she'd be out partying till all hours, then would show up the next morning on the set hung over and barely functional. The director was ready to sack her, but some of her co-stars took her aside and told her that she was blowing her big chance and might never get another one. She immediately cleaned up her act and finished the picture without incident.

The picture was Howard Hawks' LAND OF THE PHAROAHS. The actress was Joan Collins. And whatever you think of her, she worked steadily for the next four decades. Will we be able to say the same of Lindsay in 2046? It's up to her now.
