Since running the Reign O'er Me piece last night and particuarly that top photo of Don Cheadle and Adam Sandler in a vinyl record store, a lot of guys have written in about Sandler's resemblance in this photo to Bob Dylan during his Blonde on Blonde period. The more general response is simply that the Dylan coif looks cool.

One guy wrote, "Wow, I can't believe how much better Sandler looks with long hair. Why does he always crop his hair so short that his head looks like an egg with a nose?" (I myself liked Sandler's shaggy Wedding Singer look way back when, and was kind of dismayed when he shifted over to shorter hair after that.) The obvious thing to take from all this is that Sandler -- hello? -- would make a great Dylan in Todd Hayne's I'm Not There. Which I don't think is fully cast yet.

By the way, speaking of Haynes' movie, didn't that recent stage musical about John Lennon, which incidentally got epically atrocious reviews (hard to believe that of anything Yoko had a hand in), also do the thing about having a black woman, a Chinese guy etc. all play John Lennon?
(There is only one Lennon, Ian Hart. When is someone going to make another Beatles movie with him, carry on the story? There's a perfect Ringo on the new BBC America series Life on Mars, by the way...)

The hair is striking. I like it. His "egghead" look was great for Punch Drunk Love though.

This hair also makes me notice that Adam Sandler kind of looks like Mike Binder (whose performance in The Upside of Anger was one of the best things about that movie).

They're prepping the Hayne's movie in Montreal as we speak. As far as I know all the Dylan's are signed and now they are casting his back-up bands and such.

hmmm... I guess it's possible that there are many more Dylan spots to be filled. Looks like there's more than just the star names playing him.
Thing is, Sandler may look like Dylan in the photo, but Julian Moore is playing him too so I don't think appearance is at the top of their list of qualifications.

Sandler looks completely unrecognizeable in that photo, I had to study it for a minute before I could actually figure out it was him, but him as Dylan????? Do you know how much pot Haynes would have to make him smoke before he could even get Dylan's speech rhythm down? If he could pull that off, I can't imagine the academy not handing him an oscar just on the pure basis of shock.
This story has me fired up though, thanks for runnin it Jeff, I was loosing complete faith in Sandler and I have always considered him talented but choosing the wrong projects. I'm there for this flick opening weekend and I can only hope he lives up to what I think he can pull off.

Allow me to disagree. That hair looks like shit. Sandler looks like shit with that hair. And Dylan looked like shit when he had that hair.

Yeah, the hair looks like shit. But it helped Dylan, who was never a handsome man. The Dylan pictures with short hair are creepy: he looks like a San Quintin child molester.
Sandler would make a great Dylan.

it's not a wig. I worked on the film. He grew his hair out.

He even has the Dylan Shadow facial hair, but I don't think he could pull off the acting-- not cynical enough.
