Mel statement of "I'm not a bigot" reminds me of Nixon when he said "I'm not a crook". My thought to Mel's statement reminds me of another quote by Bette Davis "But cha AAH, Blanche, ya AAH".
Mel will see if one needs the jewish community to continue with a hollywood career. He still has the support of the muslim community.

I wish Mel well too, and I hope that what he means by, “I am in the process of understanding where those vicious words came from…†that he means he is asking his personal religious advisors, first, how “to discern the appropriate path for healing†and that he can then tell Jews and everyone else what he has learned. Wouldn't that be genuine? It puts Jews in an awkward position of being insulted and then asked by the insulter how he can heal himself. Sure he'll find Jewish leaders that will sit down with him, but it will unfairly put the focus on who of them will and won't. I've never been comfortable with mea culpas from anyone, too much ick factor for me. I understand why he needs to apologize specifically to Jews, but I don't agree that it should be specific. I'm glad he's acted fast though, so that what he has expressed doesn't become more acceptable in anybody's eyes.

Mel Gibson has such a large number of personal demons to contend with... maybe he should cover his bet by sitting down with Barney Frank.

"MCN Will Not Be Covering The Response To This Statement By The ADL, Abe Foxman, Or Ari Emanuel And We Sincerely Hope That We Will Not Have Any Gibson News To Report As August Progressses... Please Check Your Favorite Gossip Rags For Important Breaking Personal Opinions."
Is David Poland finally admitting that Hollywood Elsewhere is our Favourite Gossip Rag?

The sheriff's department finally released Mel's mug shot:
He looks better than he had any right to hope for. He sure doesn't look hammered. As someone pointed out in an earlier thread, his .12 reading is not all that drunk for someone his size.
His hair looks better than you might have expected, too. Neatly trimmed, reasonably combed, especially for a guy heading to the drunk tank. Not too thin. Looks like he's coloring it -- it's way too dark for a man of 60. At least it looks fairly natural, not like that flaming orange look that Ronald Reagan sported.
Kinda has a Victor Mature look going. Smiling a little, but not overdoing it with a Tom Delay shit-eating grin.

Yeah, Victor Mature. That's the look. That's the ticket. Victor Mature in one of his hunted and beleagured roles. Like in "The Robe". Or "Kiss of Death". Or "Cry of the City". Or best of all, in "Samson and Delilah":
