Cloverfield [BLU-RAY] (Paramount Home Entertainment, 6.3.2008) Disguised under deliberately goofy, yet deliciously edible-sounding, aliases such as Cheese and Slusho, Matt Reeves' Cloverfield was produced and rushed into theaters under an equally appetizing shroud of secrecy. From last year's incredibly elusive Super Bowl ad to the film's viral marketing campaign, Cloverfield had everybody scratching their heads and drooling in anticipation. Aside from the as-yet untitled title and the Blair Witch-ian visual style, the film's biggest appeal was the enigmatic creature who was last (un)seen hurling the decapitated head of the Statue of Liberty onto the crowded streets of New York City. All we knew about the mysterious beast was that it was big and angry. Now that the highy-anticipated project has come and gone, one question has fortunately been answered: Cloverfield was a major success. (continued)

This is several days late (a bit dusty even), but a colleague heard someone say last night that the happiest person about the Tom-Cruise- leaving-Paramount mucky-muck has to be Mel Gibson...back under the radar!

Under the radar and having his style cramped: Superior Court Judge Lawrence Mira ordered Gibson to attend Alcoholics Anonymous meetings five times a week for four and a half months and three times a week for the remainder of the first year of his probation. And, YES, Lassie tucks!!!

The church knows all and has John and Tom by the balls, just keep the money coming boys.

I worked for a guy who's wife-to-be had gotten caught up in Scientology before they met. She was just a small fry actress, but was being harassed after she quit and told them she wouldn't be meeting the financial commitments she had said she would make to the church.

Not sure, NYC. This could confirmation of the various stories a lot of us have heard over the years...or it could just be that Tom is REALLY friendly with his male buddies.

Regardless, I'm interested to see how his people handle it. My suggestion: laugh it off.

At the very least - Tom, Suri and Katie should send him a nice gift package from Harry & David (but stay away from the "Deluxe Fruit Basket"...for obvious reasons)

L Ron Hubbard did not approve of any alternate forms of sexuality. It seems unlikely Cruise or Travolta would be practising gay men if they are true devotees of the faith.

Is it not possible this man was a relative or such?

Of course, this picture could be exactly what it looks like; but in Hollywood culture, would it really be odd to see two men kiss gooodbye who were not gay?

Oh, yes, gay men love to gossip about who's queer and who isn't, but the mainstream "gossip machine" (tabloids, Ent Tonite, et al) pretty much goes out of its way NOT to say things like that. There was a period in the early '90s when "outing" came into its brief vogue, and the tabs published stories about Randy Travis and John Wesley Shipp (who was starring in "The Flash" on CBS at the time) but they discovered that Middle America really didn't *want* to know. So it's rare for pics like the Travolta above, or those candid shots of Kevin Spacey "hiking" with his young male cutie to get major play.

Maybe ET does not but ever since I was a child the tabs always have had headlines like 'gay shocker'. The Travolta stuff has been on for decades.

Similarly, can you get through one year of college without hearing some prof saying everyone who was ever great in history or literature is/was gay. Everyone from Shakespeare to Robin Hood.

Oh no, in mainstrean culture saying a man is gay is very common.

And if you deny it it makes them say it even more.
