Snakes on a Plane, the hottest internet sensation of the year that opened last weekend, will rank in eighth place as of Sunday evening with earnings of $5,812,000 -- a drop of 62%. And Little Miss Sunshine, which expanded to 1450 theatres this weekend, will come in third with $6,928,000. The #1 film, as expected, is Invincible with a projected $16,198,000.

By any measure, that's a disaster for SOAP.
It's one thing to have a big-budget clunker like The Poseiden Adventure.
But to fail to capitalize on a movie with such tremendous buzz and hype is probably going to cost some folks their jobs.

I stepped into Snakes on a Plane for a moment as I had time to kill before my Little Miss Sunshine screening...oy. I barely lasted 30 seconds in there.

Just saw THE ILLUSIONIST, which for me is the best picture of the summer. Admitted;y, that's not saying much.
Superbly adapted & directed by Neil Burger (didn't see his ASSASSIN movie, but now will), I really hope it does well (but since it's a period drama, I wouldn't bet on it).
Best performance was, of course, Paul Giamatti, who can do no wrong in my book. Jessica Biel better than expected. And Edward Norton is quite good, although I do understand why some have an issue with his performance. It's the accent, I think.
But it's Burger's accomplishment and I'd bet some studio will step up and hire him soon.
Afterwards, I hopped into World Trade Center, finally. Strong and well-made, no doubt about it. Very good work from Stone, etc. A bit of a downer, of course, but well worth seeing, if you've been putting it off. First rate performances from everyone.

Dixon - Glad you enjoyed 'WTC'
'WTC' still has a shot at being Stone's second
most successful domestic release. However, the
drops of 40%+ each weekend can't be great news
for Paramount. It'll still clear about $70-75
million though.
