"Yuma"....yeah!

Christian Bale is locked down to play the Van Heflin role in James Mangold's 3:10 to Yuma. That's the less charismatic role, as if you had to be told. Russell Crowe has the cool-bad-guy Glenn Ford role, or the one that Tom Cruise was going to play before he bailed over...I don't why he bailed. (Does anyone?) Columbia Pictures bailed on this oater a while back, but now Relativity Media is going to cover production costs.

This is an amazingly cast movie already. I would have imagined the roles working well the other way around, but seeing Bale as the stoic hero and Crowe as the slick baddie will be a lot of fun.

Now they just need to fix the ending. It's one of those "how can he possibly get out of this" stories where the way it ends is just too... well, I shouldn't spoil.

This was a black and white, fairly low-budgeted western (by the reliable Delmer Daves) back in its day. Now, even Christian Bale's salary will probably be higher than the original's entire cost. I hope others are bothered by this.

Also, why bother remaking something as well done and as stark (and with a notably low body count)? Does anyone truly believe James Mangold is THAT gifted a director and THAT imaginative? Even something as odd for its day as Glenn Ford's gang, which was something like 12-14 strong, I suspect it'll become something like a battalion and the original's stage heist will become a Tucsoversion of the Brink's job. This truly indicates to me nothing more than the general lack of anything truly approaching creative vision in modern Hollywood. And perhaps Tom Cruise simply watched "3:10 To Yuma" and realized the sheer silliness of remaking it.

Never seen the original. Is it on DVD?

Anyhow, I love that Bale isn't about to be pigeon-holed as just Batman and is working hard. Between this, The Prestige and The Dark Knight, he has a lot for me to look forward to.

Crowe as a bad guy. When was the last time he did that? Romper Stomper or Virtuosity?

Good casting! I'm happy to hear Mr. Cruise backed out. Bale is an acting god (not quite Daniel Day-Lewis but definitely a runner-up) and Crowe needs to stay away from Ron Howard and Mr. Scott.

FYI-The original "3:10 To Yuma" runs on the StarzEncore's western channel periodically. They ran the film quite a few times two months ago.

Speaking of DDL did you see that pic of said #1 acting god in makeup on PTA's "There Will Be Blood"? This is the film I want to see.
