"Flags" trailer

A very nicely rendered trailer for Clint Eastwood's Flags of Our Fathers (Dreamamount, 10.20). There's some kind of deal in place by which www.miltary.com is the only website currently showing it....cool.

Actually, I think their cute attempts at putting this trailer online -- both here and at the Japanese site -- are pretty much disasters. At this point, if you're only releasing a Windows-compatible trailer you simply don't know what you're doing. Of the four major media players online (Quicktime, Real, Flash, Windows) Windows is the only one that's not universal. You cannot watch Windows on any new Macs. One of the reasons MTV online has been a failure.

Holy shit, that's a great trailer! I can't imagine a movie that looks this good not winning another Oscar for Eastwood...maybe others should just give up the race now. (It's almost like Eastwood has become the DIrty Harry of directors...ever since getting that lifetime achievement, he has pulled out the stops to make movies that win on their own merits.)

I have mixed feelings about the trailer being on "military.com" especially since I'm watching "The Ground Truth" right now and I'm fairly opposed to what's going on in Iraq... seems like putting a trailer for a movie like this on that site is like an advertisement for joining the military.

This is the first I've heard that Windows Media Player doesn't have a version for the INTEL based Macs? That's ironic.

They announced after the last version that they wouldn't be updating Windows Media anymore for Macs. Since then, the Intels have come out. Which means no version exists for them. But furthermore, regarding MTV and its Windows alliance, you could NEVER watch their media on a Mac. Even as far back as the G4.

It's just a bad strategy at this point. Unless, of course, you do Boot Camp. Windows is inferior media anyhow.

Beautiful looking trailer. I had a similar thought about other movies just giving up as far as Oscar goes. Eastwood certainly seems to be wanting to top himself, and everyone else, each time out. Not that that's a bad thing.

Mac people: install flip4mac and the trailer (and all other Windows Media Files) ply fine through good 'ole Quicktime. flip4mac.com.

Software worked. Watched it.

No chance that this wins the Oscar. It looked like every other Spielberg produced WWII project since SPR -- bleach bypass, violence mixed with sentimentality, etc. Might be good. Might get nominated. But there was nothing about it that seemed the least bit urgent.

This doesn't win. Start looking for another movie.

This debate about who will win the Oscar is tiresome. Now let me join the debate. Eastwood's movie will not be judged by cinematic standards alone. His movie will play as a surrogate for the ongoing wars "we" now fight, in Iraq and Afghanistan. Reality will color how his film is received, for good or ill.

An impressive trailer. Those fearing a Ryan-redux should be pleasantly surprised as it seems clear movie has more on its mind than 2 hrs of repetitive combat scenes. Trailer lays out the main themes, you can feel the sadness of it all, what we do see of the fighting on Iwo Jima looks stunning enough to convince teens to give it a try and the cinematography is gorgeous from beginning to end; whole thing looks like it's come through a time warp direct from 1945. Pic's true story factor is only going to help. I think this could be huge.

You meant www.military.com I reckon. Too bad the other wasn't a free porn site.
