Hot Trackers

The only 9.22 opener that looks like anything commercially is Jackass Number Two (Paramount) with, according to a tracking survey, an 81% general awareness, 40% definite interest and 13% first choice. (It also has a 25% definitely not interested, but that's just the older audience harumphing.) The two liveliest 9.29 openers, to go by the numbers, are The Guardian -- 62, 36, 8 -- and the animated Open Season -- 47, 32, 3. (32% definite interest among adults is a very strong number for a kids film.) And The Departed (Warner Bros., 10.6) is looking very strong -- 55, 43 and 7.

There could be a large boost for Fearless, for all those kids who want to see Jackass but aren't allowed in.

The Winchester, I loved Jackass, even helped 2 underagers get into the theatre. I think the jackassers promote safe stunts. I wish someone would expose home grown back-yard-boys-hurting-themselves as the anorexia/cutting epidemic for boys. Would you support that?

I would most definitely support it. Not only that, I would ENCOURAGE it. Thin out the MySpace herds a bit. Get them to blog about THAT.

For the record, I loved the first Jackass myself. It was honest about itself, but above all, it was effin' hilarious. Some of the things those guys think of are brilliant. The opening (and stinger after the credits) are worth the purchase of the DVD alone. Same with Moveable Disco.

Sorry T.H.Ung, I have a bizarre, inexplicable hatred of that site. Wish I could explain why.

although, part of it is based on movie websites just making their MySpace page their home. (Even though it seems to work, that Step Up movie made a boat load of cash off the crowd)

The World Trade Center MySpace page seemed sort of, I don't know, in poor taste? Like, does Oliver Stone really care if he managed to reach out to ChunkyLover69?

I'll stop now

Just read The New York Times' A.O. Scott's review of ALL THE KINGS' MEN.

"Nothing in the movie works...Overwrought and tedious"

Yikes.

What do you accomplish by this, Jeff? Fact is that it isn't awful..maybe you didn't like it and it isn't your cup of tea, but I know a lot of people--men and women who a.) may enjoy it and b.) may do them good to learn something about history. It already would have had an uphill battle without your comments, but I hope that anyone who thought of seeing it this weekend takes your comments with a grain of salt and gives it a shot anyway.

Yeah, we sure wouldn't want Hollywood looking at any genre besides cop movies and teen comedies.

At least JACKASS 2 will give the supremely untalented Knoxville a chance to do what he does best: wallow in shit for the sad middle-class frat skater boys of America while LA Weekly wanks like Scott Foundas gush over the loss of their own shit-wallowing days. And hi Spike!

JACKASS is the only thing John Waters is wrong about.

Christian: not really surprised that Waters would like it. But I note that Jon Stewart also fawned over Knoxville this week, he apparently (genuinely) thinks he's hilarious. Which brought Stewrat down a notch or 2 in my esteem. Knoxville, meanwhile, came across in the interview as a rather dim bulb.

The first film was savaged by most mainstream crits but the sequel is getting props from the NY Times, fer chrissakes.

Stewart, NY Times, etc. want to come off as hip and edgy with the crazy kids so they can keep their street cred. Or they're quasi-sadists.

JACKASS is a movie only George Bush in his frat house ass branding days would love.

The fact that some liberals love this literal shit shows a certain disconnect that the big brains at The Daily Show would never dare queston.

For the record: i hate JACKASS.

of course, moriarty at aint it cool banned me personally years ago because i would sporadically pop up in talkbacks to ask him, "but is it as good as JACKASS?"

i still recall his angry comic-book guy email on my tiny assaults -- unlike the kind he likes to laugh at.

btw, did anybody note one of the JACKASS idiots actually pissing on the red carpet at the grauman's premiere?

maybe it's time to leave this town of hellish mediocrity...

and i am outta here.

happy friday!
