I watched the trailer for All The King's Men for the eighth or ninth time last night, and I'm starting to seriously doubt my ability to watch the full-length feature version of this Steven Zallian film with anything close to a neutral and receptive attitude. Sean Penn's squealing, vocal-chord-shredding delivery of that stump speech ("Yo' weel is mah strength!") at the end is driving me up the wall. It's chalk-on-a-blackboard time. "They want to take from yew...and ahh weeyull not let theyemmmm!"

Don't you mean "nails on a blackboard"? Chalk on a blackboard has always been pretty acceptable to me.

The tailer is HORRID and I can only guess as to
how horrid the actual movie will be. I can't wait
for this to die.

Jeff, you've already seen my previous post on this. Robert Penn (such irony here) Warren must be turning over in his grave.

You know what would be a good way to not get sick of a movie you haven't seen before you actually see it? Not watching the trailer eight or nine times.
You know what would be a good way not to have pre-determined your responses to movies 90% of the time? Not watching the trailers eight or nine times in any particular stretch.
Watching a trailer once or twice is perfectly valid if you want to whet your appetite or get a sense of what might be wrong with a movie, but if you keep watching it over and over again, you're pre-programming your responses to the point that you probably drool when a bell rings. If you keep watching a trailer in order to confirm what you're going to hate about a movie, that seems like a bit of a waste.
It is, forgive me for saying this Jeff, an idiotic way of going about giving yourself a true and representative impression of the movie.

I'm already not much of a Sean Penn fan but I was willing to overlook that since I am an All the King's Men man. But I finally saw the trailer the other day (in front of The Illusionist) and it truly does look horrible.

Granted the audio from the trailer is terribly compressed, I still cannot understand a thing Sean Penn is saying. If he over acts throughout the film and nobody is able to understand him then this could turn out to be the turkey of the season.

You know, I just re-watched 'Casualties of War' for the first time in ages, and a question occured to me: what the hell kind of accent was Penn trying to pull off in that movie? It seemed like he was deliberately stressing the wrong syllable in every sentence, while at the same time trying to be unintellible as possible. It was almost painful to listen to.
My hopes are not high for 'All The King's Men.'

I meant, of course, 'unintelligible.'
