I'm sitting in the Philadelphia airport, my plane is late (naturally) and one of the 2006 Toronto International Film Festival's People's Choice awards went to Alejandro Monteverde's Bella, and the FIPRESCI Critics Prize went to Gabriel Range's Death of a President, which I saw and isn't half bad. Read all about it at IndieWire.

Do they have "craft, sharpness, smarts and a really strong theme and emotional undercurrent all working together."?

I was once stuck in Philadelphia's airport for 14 hours coming home from vacation. Granted, the cause of this was a missed flight that was my fault, but as each successive flight (for which I was on stand-by) filled up, I became more and more convinced that I would be spending my entire life there. Eventually the baggage claim people took sympathy on my friend and I, and assisted us in getting on the final flight of the day.
