"Life's hard...but it's a lot harder when you're stupid." -- a line presumably written by novelist George V. Higgins, but definitely spoken by a young illegal-sun salesman (Steven Keats) in The Friends of Eddie Coyle.

Your item reminded me of Keats, an fine actor I always liked. He had prominent roles in Coyle, Death Wish, Black Sunday and the lead in Hester Street.
He never made it big as a lead but he seemed to work a lot in TV. I met him at a club in NYC in the late 70s, a really nice guy, and I was saddened when he took his own life in '94.

The Austin Lounge Lizards have a song called "Life is Hard, But Life is Harder When You're Dumb". I never realized they cribbed the idea from "Friends of Eddie Coyle".

I have not sought this enormous responsibility, but I will not shirk it. Those who nominated and confirmed me as Vice President were my friends and are my friends. They were of both parties, elected by all the people and acting under the Constitution in their name. It is only fitting then that I should pledge to them and to you that I will be the President of all the people. Thomas Jefferson said the people are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty. And down the years, Abraham Lincoln renewed this American article of faith asking, "Is there any better way or equal hope in the world?" cheap tiffany co jewelry
