Tom Tykwer's Perfume: The Story of a Murderer (Dreamamount, 12.27), which isn't expected to blow anyone's socks off on these shores, has now brought in $47.3 million in Europe, with $28.4 million in Germany alone. It opens Wednesday in France. Here's a U.K. teaser-trailer and the German teaser/final trailer.

I guess the 60mil budget was justified.
Congrats to Tykwer. He deserves the success.

Wells to Mark G.: I think it's going to tank here because the lead actor not only plays a creep (an interesting variety but a creep all the same) but seems to actually be one on some level. He looks emotonally diseased...haunted...dwelling in some private realm of perversion.

How "the story of a murderer" could involve a diseased, haunted, perverted creep does seem a bit of a stretch. Of course, there was that fellow with the skin-vest in "Silence of the Lambs." He wasn't exactly the picture of emotional health.

See it, see it, see it. This movie is EXCELLENT. Only wrong step is Dustin Hoffman -- baffling bit of (mis)casting.
