Arizona Daily Star critic Phil Villarreal has made some early Oscar calls, and decided that the top five Best Picture candidates are Babel (of course), The Departed (definitely), Dreamgirls (almost certainly), Flags of Our Fathers (most likely) and United 93 (brilliant!).

Oh, I still say 'World Trade Center' will there at
the end of the day. It might win the Hollywood
Movie award for Best Picture on the 23rd.

As wrong as he is about U93's Best Picture prospects, he's even more wrong if he thinks it could score a nod while Oliver Stone bumps Greengrass. 90% of the time, the directors pick the smarter, edgier, and better film whenever there's a Pic/Director disconnect. No way in the world the Academy would go for U93 but the director's branch would go for the safer, more mainstream option instead.
And it's one thing to think Stallone would get a nod, but he actually *hopes* Sly does. Ugh.
