I don't know when Paramount intends to start showing David Fincher's Zodiac (1.17.07), especially given their apparent determination to not release it platform-style in late '06, but I've been told it'll be totally finished and screenable as of 11.10. The person who told me this expects Zodiac to begin showing the following week; let's see what develops.

Zodiac at 2:45 is the film of the century. It should be available on VOD right now. Anything less is a criminal offense.

Is there any chance that Paramount consider a rush release in NY/LA before the end of the year, if the word out of the screenings is overall positive?

Following up on that earlier post about "taking down" Munich... isn't this constant Zodiac harping EXACTLY the kind of unfounded, completely unrealistic hype-machine bullshit that inevitably overshadows whatever the movie might consist of? For fuck's sake, Jeffrey, you've been talking about this movie like it's the second coming and not releasing it this year is on par with cardinal sin.
Maybe when you've actually SEEN the movie, you might have something cogent and insightful to say? About, you know, THE FUCKING MOVIE, instead of whether or not Paramount plans to release it on such-and-such day.
Honestly, whatever day they release it on, it's going to be the same damn movie. 12/31 vs. 1/17 ain't gonna make a bit of difference in whether or not the film succeeds as a film. Get your priorities straight.

Of course when the movie is released does not make any difference as to it's quality but everyone knows that it does not hurt to get some award buzz going at this time of year. I have been looking forward to seeing Zodiac since I first heard about it. Jeffrey is not the only one interested in when it comes out. A lot of people want to see it released as soon as possible and certainly before the end of the year.In the meantime I will keep checking this colunm for my movie news fix and I also hope to hear soon that the powers that be come to their senses and give Zodiac a chance before the end of the year.
