Mafioso (The Criterion Collection, 3.18.2008) Nino Badalamenti is a supervisor in a car manufacturing plant who hasn't taken a vacation in over two years. On his way out the door to visit his beloved childhood hometown of Sicily -- with his blonde wife and daughters -- Nino is handed a package by his boss and asked to deliver it to a powerful and influential Sicilian gangster named Don Vincenzo. Once in Sicily, Nino has a hoot seeing friends and family, but his wife has trouble fitting in and is unfairly dismissed as a snob by Nino's family. Even more worrisome, Nino finds himself entangled in an intricate web of secret mafioso dealings and is eventually sent on an unexpectedly... elaborate errand. (continued)

Back in the jungle

I'm dying to say something about this, but the hour is not quite at hand. A savvy bearded Houston guy has a friend who's passed along a very excited impression of a soon-to-open film. Meanwhile, back in the jungle...

And, Mr. Wells, you know Ms. Thompson wrote:

An exhibitor wrote in with a response to Apocalypto, which I cannot wait to see tomorrow night:

Saw APOCALYPTO yesterday. Gibson borrows from everything...NAKED PREY, CARRIE, APOCALYPSE NOW, WOMAN IN THE DUNES, etc. Unbelievable violence, non-stop action, way too looooong, lots of grotesque ugly warriors and one stunningly beautiful pregnant Bollywood-looking actress in danger and a particular subtitle that will have the audience (unintentionally) on the floor laughing.

It also sounds like the description for 300 (save the pregnant Bollywood actress and subtitles), which kicks an obscene amount of ass.

I'm intrigued by Apocalypto, I'd like to see it, but I still feel the only director who should be allowed his name over the title is John Carpenter.

Actually, I think Credence Clearwater Revival's "Run Through the Jungle" might be more apt in this context.

The beginning sounds like some of Danny Elfman's Oompa Loompa songs from Charlie.
