Digital remixes of old hits are generally irksome -- they tend to make original cuts sounds cheap in a clubber/house-music sort of way -- and I hate the idea of any musical show that launched in Las Vegas of all places -- still the #1 Middle American mecca for plastic, get-drunk-and- jump-off-the-roof-of-the-casino Sodom & Gomorrah wallowings -- but I'm feeling a little differently about some of these Beatles tracks.

This Strawberry Fields one in particular. (Here's a Real Audio link.) Everybody read last June about original Beatles producer George Martin and son Giles remixing a lot of the old tracks for a Cirque du Soleil show, etc. They actually did a half- decent job. The album is out on 11.21, but my God...the CD jacket cover is disgusting. It was obviously designed by some synth-head who totally doesn't get what the Beatles were 'up about" when they really mattered.

Yeah, it's pretty terrible. But I'm a Beatlephile, so I'll probably grab it anyway.

As far as I know, the Beatles were about beating their wives, no? First John, now Paul?

I think this is different because Sir George is involved. Still won't forgive the Beatles for having Jeff Lynne produce the "new" cuts for the Anthology albums. George Martin, more than anyone else, was the "Fifth Beatle."
This is definitely not what I was expecting, but it was fun trying to pick out all the snippets from other songs in the remix at the end. I'm looking forward to hearing the rest.

"Strawberry Fields" sounds very good. The Beatles still sound fantastic, they have aged very well. I look forward to hearing the rest.

I've seen the show and no matter how you feel about the integrity or decadence of Vegas, I think if you consider yourself a Beatles fan, this show is a must-see. I'm not making guarantees, in fact some people may hate it, but as someone who considers himself a fairly versed fan who "gets" the Beatles, I was stunned about how thoughtful, well-executed and passionate the production was. There's only a couple of points in the show where it was a bit too gimmicky for my tastes, but that had nothing to do with the music. The sound quality of the music is unbelievable. Astonishing. Choked Up, I was truly choked up in the first 10 minutes. If you're familiar with the Anthology material, a lot of it makes an appearance on the soundtrack, and the Martins have really done a great job with it. I agree with Wells about the logo design, it kinda misses the mark. But the show doesn't. It really is moving.

I've heard this album in its entirety and it's pretty spectacular. I'm not an audiophile, but I plan to invest in a 5.1 system. The DVD surround version is so mind blowing that it almost seems like a crime to listen to the CD/stereo version.
I sort of agree about the artwork. But that's the imagery for the Vegas show, so I've gotten used to it from going out there. It's even on every room key at the resort. Part of it is that there's a real disparity there; the image of the lads seems to date from the "Hard Day's Night" era, but if memory serves, there's only one number out of 26 that predates "Rubber Soul." This show and album are really about their mid- and late '60s music, not the moptop smashes.

Because the only things stronger than my sense of patriotism are my senses of selfishness and cowardice. This is why I have such an undying, deeply-rooted respect for those who volunteer selflessly and bravely to fight for America. They are truly far, far better people than I, true human heroes of a stature I am amazed to even consider.

You forgot to mention you're too busy posting shrill, inane comments here, in between masturbating to gay porn w/ cheeto stained fingers. Why say you're selfish and cowardly when saying you're a Republican would have sufficed?

my friend saw this show and he says outside of the fantastic mix of beatles music it is pure vegas cheese. the beatles weren't vegas, baby.
pass. i'll stick my collection.
i'd also like to know what films. fiction and music nyc absorbs so we can help him seperate the private from the public. i'm sure he'll stop watching john wayne films since wayne too was allegedly fond of drunkenly beating his wives. right pilgrim?

Nice point christian, but clearly, as evidenced by NYCBB previous post(s), he is a very, very confused individual.

It's called therapy. You may not think you need it, but trust me, you do.
Seriously, putting it off much longer will only make it harder in the long run.
