Craig is Jason Bourne

"Don't quote me but Casino Royale is James Bland. And very long. Lots of cool little moments don't deliver what America will want. And Daniel Craig isn't Bond. He's Jason Bourne in five years." -- Hotshot Manhattan movie guy who gets around and sees everything.

Craig's going to be the fall-guy for the franchise, much like Lazenby before him.

I hope this anonymous "Manhattan movie guy" is wrong (I can't say I trust any of Wells's sources) but it could happen. I wonder what he thinks 'America wants'.

Wow, some random guy who sounds like he wants to be the next Peter Travers. Love the "sources", Jeff.

Ummm...I'll take the extremely positive published online reviews of the London Times, The Observer, the Guardian, the Daily Mirror, the Daily Telegraph and the Daily Mail over that of "Manhattan Movie Guy" whose veracity would be more convincing if the picture had actually been screened in Manhattan rather than in London.

"And Daniel Craig isn't Bond. He's Jason Bourne in five years."

Considering what the story of this movie is, that sounds like a compliment to me.

Let's see, what day is it? Ah, yes it's Monday. That must mean that we are dumping on the new Bond film for not being as flashy and gadget-laden as the past few installments. In other words, it's not sufficiently "Bond-Like."

I'll check back on Tuesday when I'll undoubtedly see another post about how Bond has no relevance to today's audience because his flash and his gadgets lead to "soulless" entertainment of the kind that's destroying Hollywood.

On Wednesday, we'll probably get a review that is either positive, with reservations, or negative, with a few positive nuggets gleaned, whichever way the critical winds happen to be blowing.

Then, after the film goes wide, we'll get a mea culpa saying either, "on second viewing, it gets much better" or "during the second viewing, I noticed how much it drags."

Nostradamus and Jeanne Dixon got nothing on Jeff Welles.

Don't listen to that bullshit. Everyone I know who's seen the movie (and that includes a bunch of diehard Bond fans) loved it. Craig does a great job and it really has very little to do with the Bourne movies. Heck, I'd say Casino Royale is better just as a movie than both of them put together. I'll probably pay to see it again later this month.
