Cruise, Beckham, "The Thetan"

A reported (and undeniably brilliant, if true) career move for Tom Cruise: personally bankrolling The Thetan, a Scientology-inspired drama about a so-named alien leader and immortal spiritual being, blah, blah. Anyone would have trouble believing this Daily Telegraph story about Cruise having cast Victoria Beckham in the said-to-be-forthcoming film, but if it's real...Battlefield Earth 2! The bizarre element is Cruise allegedly describing Beckham, wife of soccer superstar David Beckham, as a "comic genius." This implies that The Thetan (which the Telegraph piece says was "rejected by all the major film studios") will presumably make use of said comic gifts, which in turn suggests the film will be in some way comedic? Good God.

I strongly suspect the only truth in this British tabloid report is that there are celebrities bearing the names Tom Cruise and Victoria Beckham.

Wow, the newly revived United Artists won't last long. I guess the (scary) question is, if all the Scientologists in the world buy tickets, will it turn a profit?

Sure, it's going to be called The Passion of The Thetan.

Is it really any weirder to non-believers than Mel's snuff film?

V. Beckham is this generation's E.T. and the only Hollywood actress that can play a Thetan believably.

There's a bit of confusion as to the nature of this paper. This appears to be the Australian "Daily Telegraph," which as far as I can tell is a tabloid, and not a particularly reliable one.

The British "Daily Telegraph," on the other hand, is a respected daily broadsheet paper (albeit a somewhat conservative one), and not one that indulges in celeb gossip, for the most part.

Why do bogus stories like this always use extra bogus quotes to make everything super fake?

"This could be the perfect start for her, with good pal Tom Cruise in charge."

No real person would say that.

Of course Victoria Beckham is a comic genius -- has everyone forgotten her performance in the 1998 masterpiece SPICE WORLD?

All the Daily Telegraph is reporting is that ANOTHER tabloid said this.

I believe one of those reports is reliable.

Please be true. We have not had a star-meltdown cum turkey in years. It could be Tom Cruise's 'The Passion.'

The source of this story would appear to be the Daily Star, a British tabloid so devoid of anything resembling factual news it makes The Sun a paragon of investigative journalism in comparison. 5 million wiped out in tsunami? Let's fill the front page with TITS and maybe mention that disaster in a paragraph in bottom left-hand corner. Victoria Beckham to star as Thetan in Tom Cruise mega-movie? Shit, yeah, and while we're at it, where's that story of Paris Hilton playing Mother Theresa for an all-singing midget musical version?
