Honry Manatees

Any predictions on how soon we're going to read a Variety announcement about a forthcoming animated Horny Manatee movie, complete with a quest-for-the-perfect-sexual-partner plotline written by Judd Apatow or Sacha Baron Cohen along with expectations of stars (Julia Roberts? Gregg Kinnear?) voicing Manatee dialogue (not to mention groans)?

I'm referring to N.Y. Times writer Jacques Steinberg's report that by Monday afternoon (12.11) "hornymanatee.com -- created by Conan O'Brien's staff and featuring images of such supposedly forbidden acts as 'Manatee-on-Manatee' sex (using characters in costumes) -- had received approximately 3 million hits, according to NBC. Meanwhile several thousand of Mr. O'Brien's viewers have also responded to his subsequent on-air pleas that they submit artwork and other material inspired by the aquatic mammals, and the romantic and sexual shenanigans they imagine, to the e-mail address conan@hornymanatee.com."

I predict... Oh, calm down. It's a silly late night joke taken to a ridiculous extreme because the net is cheap and ready-made for this kind of triviality.

Then again, it may be greenlit after Paramount throws down 8 mil for the screen rights to Colbert's Better Know a District.

If you hate the geration after you so much, Jeff, how can you stand your children?

Wells to Argen: I don't hate Genxers or GenYers at all -- the ones I have trouble with are the boomers. The overfed, overly insulated sedate variety, I mean.

I think (I hope) that Conan is smart enough to see that this joke has been taken about as far as it can be. Besides, the guy in the manatee costume is about 90% of the joke; a CGI manatee wouldn't cut it.

The website is pretty damn funny, though. The parody is dead-on.

Then I guess we agree, Jeff. Nice to know someone shares my hatred for my parents.

As a boomer I should take offense, but I'm anything but sedate and overfed. Besides, I'm an "artiste!"

I'll believe it when I see it. This sounds like it is almost certainly some sort of practical joke.

Awesome concept. I know a buddy of mine makes use of templates. This stuff is great for if you append rows to a grid or list.

Also, it would probably be great for having some sort of "viewer". You could have a list of documents, and use jQuery to get JSON data, then put the data into the template. Something like viewing invoices or other formatted docs.

Just to be picky too, according to w3schools.com, the "value" tag is deprecated? But I guess it is still technically valid. I like to be "valid" when I can :)
