Forget observing any moments of silence for Saddam Hussein during the Sundance Film Festival, as projected a couple of days ago. The former Iraqi dictator will reportedly be put to death by hanging before sundown on Saturday, which would be sometime in the early afternoon or late morning New York time. (If you're going to take the meaning of the term "before sundown" literally, that is.) It could even be a tad earlier. I wanted a YouTube video clip up and running no later than Sunday evening, but it could take longer. Iraq's national security adviser Mowaffak al-Rubaie told the N.Y. Times there would be "no television, no press...nothing.â€Â

If only Bush pursued Pinochet with this much fervor, instead of getting his buddies in Spain and Britain to bail him out. And why is Saddam any worse than say, Qadaffi, or the dictators in Equatorial New Guinea and Uzbekistan? Oh right, because he didn't want to trade oil with us.

Will Saddam's delightful cameo in The Big Lebowski be as funny as this?

Apologies for typo. Previous transmission should have read "as funny after this?"

but knowing the horror he brought to iraqi's i still think justice is being served.

The hell we've helped create in Iraq overwhelms any joy I might feel at the horror we're eliminating by killing Saddam.
Good riddance to the guy, but I'm in no mood to celebrate.
