Classe tous risques (The Criterion Collection, 6.17.2008) Claude Sautet is best known for subtle interpretations of French bourgeois life in such films as Un coeur en hiver and Nelly & Monsieur Arnaud. Yet the director began his career with genre films. Classe Tous Risques, released in 1960, is considered the best of his early work and it's a fascinating companion to similar crime movies made around the same time by Jean-Pierre Melville. Gonzalez vs. Becket

Village Voice critic Ed Gonzalez pisses on Becket! Fine, permissible, whatever. The guy has chutzpah.

Ed Gonzalez is a childish troublemaker who has made a career out of reviewing bootlegs and breaking review embargos.

Way to go, Jeff. Let's celebrate the assholes of the industry!

breadleymoore is quite correct. If a film has any whiff of "Hollywood" about it, Gonzalez will piss on it. He only champions obscure or awful movies like Battle in Heaven.

Well, you can't blame that on New Times, anyway!

Re LYT's comment:

You can blame the exits of Robert Christgau
and James Ridgeway on New Times.

And the continuing erosion of LA WEEKLY, which used to be mocked as "LA WEAKLY" by NEW TIMES
LOS ANGELES.

Now, I'm wondering when Rick Barrs and his overuse
of the word "freakin'" and his THE FINGER column will pop up at LA WEEKLY.
