Haynes, Dylan, Harvey

Bob Dylan isn't suing anyone over Factory Girl -- Hayden Chistensen's Dylan-xeroxed "Quinn" character is the only guy in the film who really cares for Sienna Miller's Edie (apart from Shawn Hatosy's Cambridge pally) plus he advises her to steer clear of Warhol and his vampires. Still, it's a wee bit ironic that Todd Hayne's I'm Not There, an ostensibly heavy examination of the Dylan mystique/legend, is being distributed by the Weinstein Co. I mean, considering that somebody from the Weinstein camp fed "Page Six" that recent item about Dylan having allegedly gotten Sedgwick pregnant (i.e., according to her brother).

Shocking that Haynes would let the Weinsteins get their hands on another one of his films after the torture he apparently went through when Miramax handled Velvet Goldmine.

Not to mention the fact that the new Weinstein Company has botched every release they've had except for Scary Movie 4. Say it ain't so, Todd!

it's funny how much this site is talking about this movie. i'm not complaining, jeff's posts about it have all been fairly interesting, and the jwego drama was just good old-fashioned entertainment. but at the end of the day this is some obscure art-house flick that will come and go and no one will really care much. you'd think it was a never-before-seen stanley kubrick movie the way we're all analyzing it.

The most memorable passage in Peter Biskind's book about Harvey Weinstein, Sundance, etc. was Haynes's recounting of the rage Weinstein went into when Miramax lost the chance to distribute Far From Heaven. Apparently, Harvey yelled and yelled and yelled at Haynes, to the point that Haynes actually says he felt like he'd been physically attacked (or something to that effect). Maybe the Weinstein Company bought the Dylan film as a way of making ammends. In any case, I'm assuming they have no creative input.

I wonder if Harvey will make Haynes cry again.

The article doesn't say Dylan isn't suing, it says he shouldn't sue.
