O'Toole videos

Finally!...a YouTube clip of Peter O'Toole's visit to "Late Night with David Letterman" earlier this week, plus his somewhat less musical visit to "The Daily Show" and his chat with Jon Stewart. Best Stewart moments are (a) O'Toole's pronounciation of the name "Katherine Houghton Hepburn" and (b) the notion of a 5 pm glass of white wine and a cigarette.

Great clips (I had more luck with the Letterman bit here:

Peter O'Toole is the best. I take back everything bad I've thought or said about Venus (except the bits about that infernal song) and I say: give the man his Oscar.

My favorite moment in both clips was the affection and reverence in his voice as he reminisced about Katherine Hepburn. Very sweet and it choked me up.

You know what's odd? O'Toole did all these TV appearances in the last few days and I just checked where it's playing and it's still in the same 3 theatres in NY/LA where it opened in late December. I'm really not sure why Miramax hasn't tried to expand this unless of course, they're waiting for next week after the Golden Globes or waiting til after Oscar nominations. It's a shame that he's doing all these appearances to up his visibility for awards season, but it's also a shame that studios tend to forget that it's important to get people into theatres to see the movie so that the movie can make money. Sure, an Oscar will help that, but it sometimes seems like studios are more concerned with the awards than the job of selling the movie.

I may be in the minority here but I actually could not see the entire clip, either The Daily Show or Letterman, because it was too painful to watch Mr. O'Toole.

He seemed frail and a little slow, but I was actually cheered by how sharp he was.
