Borat's Sacha Baron Cohen talks to Fresh Air's Terry Gross (in his fey British accent) on National Public Radio. They have a moderately cool discussion that really goes into the nature of his comedy and what it says about -- and how it may potentially affect -- anti-semitism.

Oy: get to know your English accents, fella. There's nothing fey about that one: It's classic nasal North London middle class, rather like Peter Sellars' back before he became a big star and took on airs. At least SBC sounds like the educated and comfortably-brought-up person he truly is and isn't acting like Eliza-Doolittle-in-reverse in the fashion of those mock-neys Mick Jagger and Guy Ritchie.

Why point out the accent? That's how SBC speaks in real life.

He pronounces it "anti-seem-ite." Jude Law's voice is as fey, but if it were as deep, he'd be a bigger draw. The gun store guy was very well edited down, the additional stuff would have just made the guy like he was agreeing with Borat to make the sale. What is it with men and homophobia? Primal fear, men afraid of men.

I listened to the whole thing and came away rather impressed with the guy, although that may be due in part to the novelty of going "behind the mask". But gotta admit, the dude's smart and very articulate. Great interview.

I haven't heard this interview yet, but the coolest thing I've read recently is that Cohen has Borat speaking in Hebrew when he's supposed to be speaking Kazhak.
