Dixie, are you saying it won't win or that it shouldn't win? Or both?
I don't think it should, though I won't gouge my eyes out if it does and I suspect it might. O'Neill makes an excellent point about TV members though I don't think his other point in the comparison to Crying Game holds water because that film wasn't the crowd pleasing favorite that LMS appears to be. That's the aspect that makes me lean towards LMS. Of the people I know (none are Academy members), the most enthusiasm and least amount of hate is for LMS. The exception is The Departed, but I wonder if the broader appeal of LMS will give it an advantage.
I don't know. The nominees haven't even been announced yet, but so far I'm leaning towards LMS and The Departed for Best Picture.
If Little Miss Sunshine wins best picture in a year of The Departed, Little Children, Children of Men, The Good Shepherd, etc. then it really shows that the Academy Awards have officially become irrelevant when it comes to truly picking the best film of the year. I liked the film just fine, but one year removed from a best picture win for a slight film like Crash, I think LMS winning will turn off a lot of people from caring in the future. The politics are disgusting.
Okay, back to films. cj, I can't really say it won't win, but it shouldn't. That's just my personal opinion. A whole bunch depends on the noms Tuesday and what it would be up against. I'm thinking we'll have The Departed, LMS, Babel and two others that could be anyone's guess.
Ok, it is now official. Saturday, all SAG members received DVD's of The Departed, Venus and, drum roll...LMS!

I really enjoyed LMS - but best picture ?? I expect more from the academy in a year where we have Pan - COM - etc etc - but - after last years Crash - if LMS wins BP - then I guess we have to redefine what "best picture" means to AMPAS - Again I wonder though - since we do not know what the voting patterns looked like - could it be that the majority of the PGA gave their votes to say - The Departed and Dreamgirls - so that the split gave LMS the win ??

O'Neill's comments are idiotic and insulting. TV people vote for things that look like TV. What pretentious bullshit. Tom clearly has a terribly high opinion of people who make STOMP THE YARD and SUPERMAN RETURNS. You know -- movie people.
