Sasha Stone-bird is actually describing tonight's 57th American Cinema Editors "Eddie" Awards, colloquially referred to as the Ace Eddie awards, as "all-important." Can you imagine asking the checkout girl at Gelson's if she has any Ace Eddie predictions and her going, "Ohmygod! I forgot they're tonight! The Eddies!"

The dramatic feature film nominees are possible winner Babel (Stephen Mirrione, ACE and Douglas Crise), Casino Royale (Stuart Baird, ACE), possible winner The Departed (Thelma Schoonmaker, ACE), The Queen (Lucia Zucchetti), and United 93 (Clare Douglas, Christopher Rouse, ACE and Richard Pearson).
Nominees for the best edited comedy or musical are The Devil Wears Prada (Mark Livolsi, ACE), Dreamgirls (Virginia Katz, ACE), Little Miss Sunshine (Pamela Martin), Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (Craig Wood and Stephen Rivkin, ACE), and Thank You for Smoking (Dana E. Glauberman).
Stonesy has assembled an ACE Eddie-compared-to-Oscar-winners historical chart, and I'm jumping on the bike and heading down to the Gelson's on Santa Monica Blvd. near Sweetzer right now.

If only they had the credibility of that SOAP group. . .
Does this mean that we can look forward to photos of a slightly preturbed cashier just before she calls for the manager?

as if jeff would use the cultural knowledge of a gelson's checkout girl as a template for what's important...

Have fun on your bike. The cashier won't know a thing because it's the invisible art, the highest praise for a cut is "I didn't notice," except now with all the gymnastics-"look at me, I'm cutting" bullshit around. Most people still think editing is cutting the bad stuff out. Predictions: Babel, well liked people, Crise has worked with many up the long ladder. Comedy/Musical, I think it's going to go to a woman. Pam's got the mystique, Ginny is ginny.
