Sacha Baron Cohen is obviously going to have trouble finding enough gullible real-life people (gay or straight) to believe his "Bruno" persona as any kind of real deal, but I imagine it'll be at least three or four times tougher when he starts shooting the Borat sequel. Newscorp chief Rupert Murdoch has just announced Borat 2 in a story in the Financial Times. Deadline Hollywood Daily's Nikki Finke provided the break and the link.

Sounds like Sascha Baron Cohen is the new Eddie Murphy.

Fortunately, this country has no shortage of gullible people. It would be nice if he would broaden the palette a little, though. Go to Canada or Australia or something instead of what sounds like a total retread.

I don't think the "Bruno" movie is really the "Bruno" movie. I think that we won't know what character Cohen is portraying until the film's in the can. Bruno is a codename, as it were.
At this point, why not just go the "Ali G" route and make a fictional "Borat" film? It'd probably be just as entertaining.

It's amazing nobody has thought that maybe Cohen has already shot a bunch of pranks as Bruno, before the whole Borat thing exploded, or that they shot a shitload of stuff for Borat that ended up on the cutting room floor. Take a bunch of unused footage, edit it together, film a couple of bookends to make it more or less relevant to the here and now, and presto, "Borat 2".

You mean Cohen is not pursuing ambitious, serious projects that stretch his considerable talent? He's happy to make people laugh and get rich while doing it?
It's time for all good people to rise up and band together in order to STOP SASCHA BARON COHEN from winning the best adapted screenplay oscar. Seriously, a hundred bucks to anyone who starts a website...

Man was that film boring. It was trying so hard to be a satire, but it was basically as insulting to my intelligence as Road Trip.

It occurs to me that, since the "problem" in making Borat 2 is that "everyone know's Borat is a con," one good way to get around that is to make the "schtick" this time around Borat trying to convince people that he ISN'T a caricature played by Sacha Baron Cohen.
Think about it: Open in Kazahkstan with Borat finding out that his documentary has just won/been-nominated-for an Oscar, then watching it on TV and finding out that this actor guy (a Jew no less!) is taking all the credit! So he and Azamat head back to the states to "set the record straight."

BORAT 2 is a perfect example of the Suits trying overdoing something the Kids love.
Mark my words, BORAT 2 will have the same cultural validity that the MONKEES have.

...implying that Borat (1) had any cultural validity? It's a distant memory, a movie full of dick and fart jokes that had one big laugh...with all we have witnessed in the past 6 years, it was and is patently absurd to believe a man carrying a bag of shit to a dinner table is going to lead to the extinction of prejudice and some great enlightenment of acceptance.
