The Oscar field "seems to have left a number of academy voters feeling dispirited," writes Slate's Kim Masters. "One director said he stared at the ballot and considered leaving the best picture category blank. Then he gave Clint a tribute vote. A publicist told us he did not check favorites in a couple of major categories for the first time in his years of voting. 'I just said, 'Fuck it, I don't like any of 'em,' he explained."

Hmm...I wonder what "major categories" the publicist is talking about besides Best Picture? I think that most of the other categoires have several choices that most people like, and I would be surprised to find many people who didn't like at least one nominee in them.

I cannot wait until Monday morning. I've had enough of this. I can't get to a screening of Reno 911 fast enough. Must..get...away....from...."important"....movies....and...have......good....time.

Ironically, we wrote about the problem with the voters and Oscars yesterday. Here's part one:

If only Dreamgirls had been on the ballot...I am sure that would have made it easier on that poor director.

Publicists get to vote? Or this guy is voting for someone he works for? Anyone who can't work up enthusiasm for any of the best picture nominees is an idiot and probably not a movie fan. Personally, I thought three of them were really good (Little Miss Sunshine, The Departed, The Queen) and one was incredible (Iwo Jima). Compared to many other years, this is a terrific field.

Wow. The Academy is as jaded as the fans and journalists are? Time to shake things up for everyone's sake.

I think Clint has the best movie in the derby this year but the idea of voting for him as a default, excuse me "tribute" if they all leave you cold is kind of absurd. How many tributes does the man need? Ten Best Picture awards? How about a Pulitzer Prize?

If all these people felt "dispirited" at the Best Picture choices, then who the heck did they vote for originally?
I find it hard to believe that there's that many people out there who don't feel that even one of the nominees is worthy, but that their groundswell wasn't enough to lift some darkhouse candidate into contention.

I was just gonna say the same thing Silver...what the hell were they doing during the nomination process? Obviously sitting on their asses and scratching. Morons.
