An exceptionally hip NASDAQ.com columnist named Frank Barnako has taken notice of Stephen Rodrick's Los Angeles magazine piece about Oscar bloggers...whoop-dee-doo. The article "says that some of the most influential Oscar-related journalism, if you can call it that, is coming from bloggers"...old-media asshole.

So your Eddie Murphy takedown stories should be considered hard journalism? Pounding the pavement, taking the pulse of the city, no matter how dirty your hands get, type-journalism?

So would your pointless "takedown" of Eddie Murphy qualify you as a "new media asshole?" That shit hurts "new media" credibility far more than any snide comment from a print writer.

I think it was nice; what's your problem - it's great to be noticed at all. It's not like we're blogging on the Presidential election or the war in Iraq or even science or cancer research - it's entertainmen.

Where did people get the idea that rudely attacking every post Jeff makes is either 1) a good way to encourage him to post quality content or 2) acceptable grownup behavior?
I'm sick of it and if you have substantive things to say, they're lost in the relentless, spoiled-teenager negativity.

Nobody "rudely attacks Jeff." He seems to crave negative attention or else he wouldn't post stuff he knows will make people mad.

I'm sorry Mgmax, if Mr. Wells posts something I disagree with, I'm going to say so. I try to avoid random personal attacks that don't lead to any kind of debate or discussion, but I'm not just going to keep quiet.

Mgmax, don't be so clueless.
Wells is a provocateur who purposely writes nasty stuff in order to generate repeating traffic to his site. This creates more "hits" and brings in $$ from advertisers.
He's a big boy, and now you can remove your nose from his ass.

Mgmax, I actually never expect Wells to post quality content. I'm pleasantly surprised when it happens, but mostly his blog is all about him being cranky and old and thinking he's hip.
Rather, I come for the delightful conversation.
And where did you get the idea that calling people spoiled teenagers was itself acceptable grown-up behavior?

Never forget that everything Wells does here is motivated by his relentless desire/need to generate hits and attention. Dixon is right, and Wells has openly stated that this new format is intended to "keep them coming back". Of course the content has suffered, Jeff's knee-jerk defensive reaction reeks of insecurity...if there's been a serious piece of journalism posted anywhere on H-e in the past two months, I certainly haven't seen it.
Even more amusing, "old media" assholes are dinosaurs and adversaries...except, of course, when they suit his anti-capitalist, socialist agenda, such as when he lamented all the firings at Time magazine at the hands of "big, bad corporate suits," conspicuously ignoring the role electronic media has played in their demise.
