Run, Al...run!

Reciting the fact that Al Gore is "on the right side of the war, owns the environment. and has already won the popular vote once before," N.Y. Observer columnist Bruce Fierstein is urgng Gore to announce his Presidential candidacy on 3.25 as he accepts the inevitable Oscar for Best Feature Documentary (i.e., An Inconvenient Truth).

"For all of our sakes, give it a think," Fierstein pleads. "Make the speech short and self-deprecating and say something to the effect of: "I think I'm supposed to say it's nice to be nominated. But having been `nominated' once before, I've got to tell you: It's a lot better to win...which is why, tonight, I'm announcing my candidacy for President. Together, with your help, we can return to the kind of people we once were, and go forward to become the kind of great nation were always destined to be.' "And that's it. Over, done and out. And by the time you show up Graydon's, there won't be a full checkbook in the house. Get back to me as soon as you can on this, Al. Obama is waiting in the wings. But in the meantime, keep one thing in mind: There's only one thing Hollywood loves more than a winner -- a comeback. Huge it out, babe."

People, the only one who gets an Oscar for that movie if it wins is David Guggenheim. Al Gore does not get a little gold man.

If Gore decides to run, there's no one who can stop him...hell, he's even someone I'd consider voting for, depending on the republican nom., although if I hear "lockbox" get thrown around again...

Look at Gore in that picture...uptight, wooden, blueblood, smarmy...totally unrelatable...amazing how much more approachable and down-to-earth he seems 6 years later.

I'm an ABG voter, anyone but Gore. I'll take Hillary, Barack--I'll even take Rudy if need be.

Why would I want a guy who's pro-death penalty and NAFTA to be Prez?

NAFTA? If attacks remain this benign against Gore, he'll make Reagan-Mondale look like a split-decision. NAFTA?? Too funny...

"And the Oscar goes to - An Inconvenient Truth! I know the Academy usually bestows this honor on the film's director, but they've made an exception this time and are awarding it to a member of the cast who has no other credit on the film. Al Gore! Uh, sorry Mr. Guggenheim, please take your seat."

Announcing it at the Oscars would be about the worst thing he could do for his campaign, in my opinion. Wait 'til the next day, don't try to steal the show at the Oscars. If he does that, he'll be ridiculed on every talk show and sketch comedy show, and it'll be Al Gore invented the internets all over again.

I would never vote for anyone who announced their candidacy on the Oscars.

announcing a prez run at the oscars is...insane.

the right would use it to skewer gore and all the hollywood baggage that comes with it.

of course, it was okay for a republican to announce his political race to jay leno...

Comparing Schwarzenegger's celeb-centric run for governor to a possible Gore run for Presidency in this way is like comparing apples and Rick Moranis.

Just listened to a BBC interview with Gore on the car radio this afternoon. He ain't running. He made it clear he hasn't done a thing to raise money or put together an organization, he's not interested, he's too busy doing more interesting things to bother with running for president.

Get over it. He ain't running.

'Get over it. He ain't running.'

That'd be my take. Kerry and Bush have both emerged from the crucible of prez electoral politics with their Republican defined-image intact. Some pols excel at redefining themselves, Nixon, I guess wd be the prime example, but somehow don't think either of these guys or Dean has it within to do that as far as electoral politics goes.
