"Sarah Silverman has proved that she is in a league of her own by generating two longish New Yorker pieces within a 16 month span-- a detail-rich 5,066 word profile by Dana Goodyear (pegged to the release of Jesus is Magic) that ran in the October, 24, 2005 issue, and this week's 1,408-word review of her new show by Tad Friend (he neither loved nor hated it).

"This is a feat that's rarely been achieved by the highest lords of literature, let alone a stand up comic who jokes about, well, bowel movements and her vagina. The steadfast, rock-solid New Yorker is notoriously parsimonious about covering the same cultural occurrences more than once (for good reason: they're The New Yorker, after all), which makes Silverman's coup all the more spectacular. Nearly 6,500 words of coverage from the the New Yorker? The closest most of us get to this is having two words (our name) on the subscription label." -- from Peter Hyman's Huffington Post piece.

Thought the show was pretty good. It's almost like a modern, female counterpart to Chris Elliot's sitcom "Get a Life".

the sad thing as i've pointed out before is that silverman's act isn't in the service of anything other than shock shit jokes.
michael musto's interview with her was the worst. he starts by calling himself a douchebag as if to show her he's "hip."

Come on, even if Silverman is slightly overhyped, don't compare her to the comedic void that is Dane Cook.

From Christian's "naked emperors" to actionman's "obvious and old," I heartily agree with comments above. (Or as Silverman would offer: I fartily agree. She is caustic with no cause, foul, with no real balls. Her show teased to offer "frontal Jewidity," but she will soon fail miserably unless she does deign to makes her bones by showing off some actual flesh. SS is 'retchedly funless.

Silverman gets this article done on her almost yearly, from one outlet or another, whenever she has a "breakthrough" project coming out. Then the project tanks.
Unlike the majority of the posters on this topic, I think she's had lines as funny as any of the best comics, but she's sooooooooo inconsistant. And her movie (Jesus Is Magic) wasn't just a disappointment, it was an embarassing disappointment. I was embarassed to be listening to the CD from it, and I was alone in my car on an empty highway. It's a shame.

Her talent is so-so and her cuteness totally subjective. I saw at least 6 more attractive women in the public library this afternoon. Her dependency on shock to attract attention has already grown tiresome and she will be gone and forgotten by this time next year.

Clearly, Silverman has a good publicist. Hyman's a fool to read anything more into it than that. This reminds me of the time last fall that the NY Times Magazine decided to christen Vera Farmiga the best-kept secret in the acting world. (HUH?)

Jeff's got a hard-on for her, that's obvious, but what does this have to do with movies? She's not a movie star, she's a glorified extra...sure, she's an entertainer of sorts, but she's got no influence in Hollywood and this isn't 'ET'. Last time I checked this site wasn't called Gen-X-Elsewhere.
...this is a clear sign of burnout...I admire Jeff's dedication and energy, but the race to keep content fresher than the next guy is killing this site and it has entirely lost its focus and punch. I say this with genuine sorrow (as much as one can have about a website, that is), as Jeff, in all his incarnations, has been one of my favorite internet destinations since 1999.

she's hot? well, there's something mildly sexy about her...she's so filthy you assume it'll carry between the sheets, but being from NY and having known more than a few girls of her ilk, I'd be willing to bet that her schtick is her outlet...

Sarah Silverman was funny 7 years ago - and she still uses those same jokes. For the longest time, the joke on Silverman was that she was sleeping her way up the bill by dating every name comic in Boston, NY and LA. And then she latched herself onto Jimmy Kimmel to the point where they aren't quite the John and Yoko of comedy - it's more like if Yoko and Linda McCartney formed a super group.
Why does she deserve two huge write-ups in the New Yorker? Maybe Jimmy doesn't mind if she puts out for others - as long as there's ink in it for her.
