Strauss's "Ghost" review

N.Y. Post critic Lou Lumenick has just posted a link to the first Ghost Rider review, run by the Providence Journal. It's a somewhat negative take from L.A. Daily News critic Bob Strauss, although he commends Nic Cage for giving "a full-blown oddball performance...more Vampire's Kiss than National Treasure..a witty/nutso acting experiment from beginning to end.'' Strauss's review apparently wasn't supposed to surface until 1 a.m, or eight and a half hours from now. Big deal. As if reviews matter.

More "Vampire's Kiss" than "National Treasure"? Dude, I am SO there! But how does it compare to the work Mr. Cage did for Michael Bay?

Saw it tonight. The movie kinda blows, but Nic Cage's performance is so wonderfully demented that I almost want to recommend it!

He eats jelly beans from martini glasses, watches videos of chimps doing kung fu, listens to the Carpenters... THEN his skull bursts into flame and he does Elvis moves. Crazy flick.

"Don't cut off Karen." Cage when Tao of Steve starts to talk at the end of "Superstar"

Cage never disappoints in roles that require him to be arch. Some people slam Cage for what they consider overacting, in films like the Wicker Man where he flips out and wanders around in a bear suit. Personally, that is the Cage that I long for. The Cage who eats cockroaches (Vampire Kiss). His explanation to Mendes of why he broke a date (“I sold my soul to the Devil.) would stall a lesser actor. Cage truly exists to bring a profundity to roles like Ghost Rider. It should be noted that in addition to his accrued credits Cage also belongs in the club of Oscar winners who wrote or acted in Fast Times at Ridgemont High, a list that includes Sean Penn, Cameron Crowe, Cage, and more than likely after next week, Forest Whitaker.

Cage in high gear amuses the hell out of me and I kind of want to see this. No doubt it sucks cinematic balls, but it doesn't always have to be high art, does it?

Guys, are we talking "Matt McConaughey in Reign of Fire" crazy? Those are the kinds of films I will intentionally track down, critics be damned.
