On last night's Real Time with Bill Maher on HBO, Maher asked guest Chris Rock, "So I hear you're running for president?" And Rock answered, "Yes, and I'm all black."
Wells to ROTC: A hairdresser named Phillip said he saw it on the tube last night, and I asked him twice to repeat what Rock said. And "I'm all black" refers to feelings within the black community that Barack Obama isn't black enough. One reason Obama has a chance of winning is precisely that factor.
Circumvrent to Wells: ROTC has it right. The question has been "Is Barack Obama black enough?" (I'm not sure where the term originated from.) Chris Rock announced he was running for President, and said, "and I'm black enough."
Sorry, Phillip.
But I liked Rock's line about Guiliani more. He compared him to a pitbull: if your house is getting robbed, he's great; but if there's nothing going on, he might eat your children."
This whole black-enough thing reminds me of what Dick Gregory said about slavery reparations: if they were sent out truly based on the amount of black blood recipients had, there'd be a whole lot of black people in America disappointed to only get half of what they were counting on, and a whole lot of white people startled to get a check for a fraction.
ROTC to Wells: See Circumvrent, above. Just as a reminder, standard journalistic guidelines typically require information to be verified by at least two reliable sources, not twice by the same hairdresser. ;-)

Jeff, I could be mistaken but I think you blew the punchline. I believe the actual wording of Rock's response was, "Yes, and I'm black enough."
