"The only thing the Cannes Film Festival lineup is missing [this year] is a film by Larry Clark. Or, failing that, one by Vincent Gallo." -- a recent e-mailed comment by a Hollywood publicist who's none too charmed by this year's roster.

Well, there is the new Harmony Korine flick "Mr. Lonely" playing. Although, I was a huge fan of Wassup Rockers. I thought it was one of the best satires I've seen in years.

Publicists: the gold standard for refined taste in cinema. I know they're a necessary evil in your profession Jeff, but most of them are abrasive twits with no appreciation for art. Who cares what they think? And what exactly does this publicist think they should be showing in the competition? One of her clients' films that was rejected, presumably. Publicists used to spend their time defendiing their clients, now they spend it bashing their clients' adversaries. Don't you feel used?

Why Clark? Wasn't that Dakota Fanning child-molesting movie enough for that person?

You mean two of the worst filmmakers to ever have films at Cannes? Jeff, is this more asskisssing for your pedophile friend Clark?
