Whenever any cultural catch-phrase pushes its way into the headlines or the columns, T-shirt makers always rush in to capitalize. Obviously millions of shmucks out there have bought this crap in the past, etc., but the people who rush these things out don't have an eye for uptown design. I mean, these "Nappy Headed Ho" teddy-bear dolls are pathetic. And here I am giving them added attention.

Okay, what Imus said was awful and wrong although by giving it more attention, everybody is making the situation worse. He said a morally reprehensible thing and he got fired because that asshole Al Sharpton called for his head. Whatever, fine, justice was served.
But that teddy bear is hilarious. Sorry, it made me laugh. It's part of the lexicon now, thanks to the idiots who wanted to stir the pot. Now the meaning is lost.

I'm willing to give Wells credit for knowing something about movies or Hollywood, but does anyone give a rat's ass what he thinks about 'uptown design'? Does anyone even know what that means?

Really Jeff? Your last 73 post on here suggest otherwise!

I'm just trying to figure out how the notion of "uptown design" fits in with snarky t-shirts in the first place. The two just don't go together. Does putting a bumper sticker on a Mercedes make it an uptown bumper sticker? No, it just makes the Mercedes look like a piece of shit.

The ironic thing about all of this (aside from Imus being rather nappy-headed himself) is that it seems as though it's now become perfectly acceptable to use the phrase "nappy-headed hos" in the context of a joke.

jeffmcm, what's the purpose of your existence? I log onto this site maybe, say, six times a week and *every* time, you've got about ten new constipated comments, usually posted immediately after jeff posts. what do you *do* all day? stop bitching and read something else if you hate hollywood elsewhere so much.

I don't know, what's the purpose of your existence? I think Sartre said it best, let me go peruse that volume and I'll get back to you...

Now that's funny. So wrong, but so funny.
And until the past week, I'd never heard of Imus.

Exactly - I think Imus will actually come out of this stronger, more popular, when he inevitably gets his next program. The Oprah-fication of black people in this country (if someone says something even mildly offensive, we have to whine, cry, bring up slavery, and make a big hullabaloo) is one of the main reasons Latino/Hispanic culture and peoples are quick becoming the dominant minority culture in the country.
The African-American story in the United States is probably the greatest, most inspiring cultural tale to be told in the era of modern civilization -- and it's being thrown away by monsters like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson (proven, on-the-record racists themselves) to score quick, but ultimately fleeting and counterproductive political correctness points.
