Collider.com's Steve Weintraub (a.k.a. "Frosty") spoke to producer Avi Arad at the recent Spider-Man 3 junket about the apparently locked-in decision to have a grey-colored Hulk in the new Edward Norton movie. "While someone else may have posted the story earlier than me," Weintraub writes, "I'm the one who asked the questions that got [Arad] to talk. You can listen to the audio and hear me asking the questions for the proof."

Oh, Hulk is gonna be grey this time? Well, in that case, it'll be totally awesome!
Honestly, who cares what color he is?

The color is significant because in the comic, the grey Hulk was...oh nevermind. Anyone who gives a shit already knows and anyone who doesn't still won't.

The one referred as "the story [posted] earlier" was published at
FirstShowing.net. And while the post doesn't claim any kind of interaction with Avi Arad, letters sent to other media (AICN for example) do seem to tell a different story. It's not clear how many people were present but since "Frosty" has the tapes to prove it, it seems that he was the one asking the questions.

Indeed. I'm surprised their even doing this. Most of the casual fans of the character know him from the 70s TV show or Lee's movie, where he is green. Grey is a very obscure fanboy angle.

What a comedy. who is this weintraub? this jumping up and down 'look at me' routine is comical.
he asked a vague question and Arad VOLUNTEERED the info on the new colour and he's hooting like he's edmund hilary.
a 'hulk is grey' post is valid, particularly with norton involved and the attention he's bringing, but what place does a mention of this weintraub kook's attitude have in the H-H story.
i'm an entertainment journalist, i've done plenty of press conferences like this and there's NO WAY i'd find room in any story anywhere for this sort of shit.
can i get an amen? this guy's immaturity is really deserving of a communal slap, no?

I'm guesing they're hoping the grittier version of the character will sell more tickets.

The grittier Hulk will guzzle bourbon in his dirty boxers, smoke and slap his woman around.
Not that I'm particularly concerned about this project, but as long as they're gonna do it, I'd rather know if he's going to be 15 to 20 feet tall again, and also if they'll be smart enough to let Norton "play" both roles. They had the perfect guy to embody Banner AND do the Hulk's motion-capture in Bana (if you've seen his terrifying performance in Chopper, you know what I mean), and instead left it to the effects guys and Lee himself.

hulk was gray in the very first kirby version, still the best. but you'd think the filmmakers could learn just to follow the comic, there's a reason they exist...

Frankbooth: do you mean Stan Lee was doing the motion-capture modelling work? I thought that Hulk looked rather restricted in his movement.

The Hulk being gray is significant in more than just a superficial color scheme sense.
In the comics, the gray version of the Hulk was usually quite intelligent and crafty and was able to actually have conversations beyond "HULK SMASH!!".
If the Hulk is gray, their is a distinct possibilty that they're going to make this Hulk smart and give him a vocabluary. Which would be awesome and totally go against what most people expect the Hulk to be. If that's the case, I can see Norton pulling voice-over duties on the gray Hulk.
The dumb, rampaging Hulk has never been as interesting or as cool as the intelligent versions of the Hulk, imho.

This whole gray thing is a smoke screen. Avi Arad just said that he wasn't commenting on a gray hulk. It's a way to get fanboy attention to the project.
Mark my words. The Hulk will be green in the movie. Period.

I'd say chances are he's going to be both.
In the books when Peter David (generally considered "the" Hulk writer) was doing them, the gray Hulk was an alternate form Banner would take in which he retained most of his intelligence and also was kind of a creep. It went away, but still pops up here and there.

Joe, have you seen the early pics from Favreau's Iron Man? Yep, he's grey and clunky and looks cool as hell.
Actually, when I commented above, I was showing my age, too. I was talking about the original grey Hulk as he appeared in the first issue. He changed to green in issue #2 and even in subsequent reprints of #1, he was changed to green. Ultimate Hulk fan Peter David revived the grey Hulk during his run.

I'm just glad they didn't make Daredevil with THAT character's original outfit. Otherwise, Ben Affleck might have looked like a big goddamn canary.

I'm not sure the outfit they used in Daredevil was that much of an improvement. Sure, it resembled the later costume, but leather? I know that ever since Burton's Batman solved the "problem" of tights, filmmaker have turned to leather and armor to make the characters seem less comic-booky (even Singer seemed to make Superman's cape out of suede).
But leather doesn't make any sense for a character whose primary power is based on agility. Then again, a lot of what went into Daredevil didn't make any sense.
