Seven-Minute Sopranos

This "Seven-Minute Sopranos" YouTube thing is very nice. It's been up for four or five days and everyone's on it. Written (and narrated?) by Paul Gulyas and edited by Joe Sabia. Man, James Gandolfini sure used to be slimmer and have more hair. Little A.J. was really tubby in the old days, and Meadow was no slender reed herself.

Go easy on Meadow ... Jamie-Lynn Siegler has battled an eating disorder for years!

Early Sopranos Gandolfini is what I would describe as heavy...now he's morbidly obese...and it's not some sort of consciously derived symbolism relating to the evolution of his character, which I've heard more than one person contest...the guy's in bad shape and needs to do something about it.

I don't know. I've heard that Chase wanted Tony to increasingly gain weight. It does fit with the evolution of his character being the top dog with alot of money and shoving food down his throat to deal with stress. Characters in the show have commented on thy psychology of it, in season 4 he starts to eat Alot of ice cream, and in season 5 Tony has that moment when he takes a good long look at his gut in the mirror, and the loud nostril breathing must be intentional. Plus, I always liked how he made fun of Bobby Baccala, who has now slimmed down, while Tony has bulked up.

Geoff...don't forget the bialies...I don't disagree that Chase has worked it in, I just think it's more a reflection of the size of Gandolfini's head, not Tony Soprano's...my best friend from Long Island had a dad who was well over 300 lbs...the guy breathed just as heavily and we would spend a good amount of time laughing about it, especially when we would get him riled up (we were teenagers, who can blame us)...but the guy certainly wasn't the star of a landmark cable series...he watched birds and caught squirrels for fun...

...nevermind me...one too many glasses of Tanq. 10...
