Seven days and a wakeup until the official 60th Cannes Film Festival slate is announced on Thursday, April 19th, probably in the wee, wee hours. But I've already emotionally divested myself from the idea of catching a Croisette screening of Martin Scorsese's Rolling Stones concert doc (which has seemed to some like a reasonable prospect, given the certainty that Scorsese will be at the festival) because it's just not happening. "No chance in hell," a friend from Paramount distribution told me a little while back. "Paramount isn't even seeing an early cut of it until mid May. It won't be ready at all for sure." Okay, fine...Toronto!

How sad - you can't see a concert film of a bunch of geriatric rockers for a few more months. Sounds like you'll be missing out on a cinematic masterpiece all right.

I agree with "Me". Unless Scorsese had access to a time machine and went back with those ace cinematographers to a bunch of Stones shows circa 1968-1974, what's the point? If he really wanted to make an interesting documentary, I say screw the music, and just follow around Keith Richards with a camera crew for a year.

But if it doesn't show at Toronto, does that mean it will win Best Picture come Oscar time?

Disagree with Me. I'd watch a Scorsese docu focused around a 92 year old Mick Jagger taking a dump. I'm as sarcastic and cynical as the next bastard on this site, but this is the freakin' Stones and freakin' Scorsese we're talking about. There will be no argument.

Pack your shades and your 3D glasses - look for the possibly generic looking docu called "U2 3D" documentary instead ...

The Stones live without Mick Taylor are merely a cover band. Dig up any bootleg of them with Taylor and you'll hear magic. Ron and Keith stuff lacks the passion - they seem to compete in who can get the most drags off their cigarettes than push each other on solos.
The only interest I have in this film is how Ahmet Ertegun backstage tumble that led to his death gets treated. is Marty going to have Mick in front of a flatbed watching the fatal tumble?
