Reader Dennis Costa feels this is "the epitome of the mash-up trailer trend...a downright inspired piece of comedy using Star Wars footage (specifically Vader scenes) with audio clips of other James Earl Jones movies...approaching genius-level...the first three and a half minutes could be the funniest thing I've ever seen," etc. My 1998-level flat screen inside a cafe in Greve (south of Florence about 25 kilometers) doesn't play video so I'm trusting Costa.

Not the epitome, no. It's well done, but the things tries to get too much humor mileage out of Vader giving irrelevant monologues while his sycophants cluster around (like the "baseball" scene). The most inspired bit is the early scene with the Isaac Hayes music cue.

I think lots of it came from "The Great White Hope." It was pretty funny, and the timing of the dialogue was precious, just right for a tilt of the head or an eyebrow raise.
Loved Darth tuning his car radio until he gets Billy Joel's "Piano Man."

Like any work of obsession, it has moments of brilliance, but ultimately overstays its welcome. The stuff with the Princess was pretty great, and I felt compelled to watch it all the way through, but: No third act. In addition to "Great White Hope" there was also "Bingo Long," "Field of Dreams," and one of those awful Eddie Murphy things-- possibly "Harlem Nights"-- as well as some interview clips.

Costa here. In response to dre, yes, I still stand by my statement that this is one of the funniest things I've seen in a long time, if not ever. I had to literally stop the video midway, my sides were hurting so bad. Granted, the thing drags a bit towards the end (some loved the car radio gag; I found it only mildly amusing) but everything from the choking scene up to the interrogation is priceless, IMHO. And I love the particular way Jones says those lines, which are pretty out there ("don't you papa me"). Sure, the video is like a year old, but there are plenty who still haven't seen it, like Hallick said. Now I'd like to get the original movies those lines came from so I can listen to them in their proper context.

as for the video itself, it's great until about the 4 minutes mark, then the rest of it kind of wore out its welcome. which is funny, because the creator must've been using the star wars series itself as a guideline.

The Pirates are playing better than the Yankees so far. Any support you could offer that beleaguered, small-market team would be greatly appreciated. Also, you can see the Paris movie on-line for free. Several of them, in fact. Not sure they're all authentically Paris? But when the legend becomes the truth, post the legend.
