The Los Angeles Film Festival (6.21 through 7.1) will kick off with Kasi Lemmons' Talk to Me (Focus Features), the real-life story of Ralph Waldo "Petey" Greene (Don Cheadle), an ex-con who became a talk-radio personality in the 1960s in Washington, D.C., and close with Danny Boyle's Sunshine (Fox Searchlight), the mostly well-reviewed space-mission sci-fi adventure that's already opened in Europe. I asked for a screening opportunity in L.A. since I'll be able to catch it France or Italy at a commercial cinema later this month, but the Fox Searclighters didn't want to show favoritism (or something along those lines). So I'll pay to see it and run a reaction during the Cannes Film Festival, or maybe a little bit after.

Saw the trailer recently and it looks quite entertaining. First time (I think) that Kasi Lemmons is working from someone else's script; as I thought "Eve's Bayou" was overrated and avoided the Sam Jackson-as-a-homeless-guy follow-up, this could be a good thing.

I saw Sunshine here in Australia (Traveling, work, etc.) a couple of weeks ago, It is a slick, well made sci-fi film that handles the sci-fi portion of the story very well.
Unfortunately, it falls apart at the end. I was not offended or pissed off by the direction it took but I felt like it was not in keeping with the rest of the flick.
PS. For the readers who have not yet seen "Paris, je t'aime" it is highly recommended.

Every Danny Boyle movie that I've seen has a horrible ending except Trainspotting, so this comes as no surprise. The man is incapable of conceiving an ending that isn't patronizing and dim-witted.

Be nice, now. It's Alex Garland who can't WRITE an ending. Mr. Boyle is simply incapable of recognizing that fact. (It's his lingering professional blind spot.) In any case, the "Sunshine" I saw was cold-hearted, empty-headed, and thoroughly muddled. I wince every time someone likens it to "Alien." Hey, there's an idea: maybe those LA Film Festival people could arrange a nice screening of "Alien" instead!

Thank you very much for the superior fact about this good topic. I could not detect this kind of dissertation idea in Internet and wanted to purchase the thesis. Hence, I get all the facts at present time.
