If anyone's going to hire Lindsay Lohan after her latest drunken meltdown, she "might have to be more than sober," reports the N.Y. Times' Sharon Waxman. "She would need perhaps to post her salary as bond, or pay for her own insurance, even on an independent film." And what's so terrible or unfair about that?
The bigger problem is that the supermarket-tabloid version of Lohan, as has been the case with so many others who've grappled with her disease, has almost totally eclipsed what little power or aura she had as an actress before this latest episode. (The quick death of Georgia Rules indicated her diminished popularity a few weeks back).
Waxman briefly mentions that Lohan's various enablers and wink-winkers are perhaps a factor in her inability or unwillingness to fix the problem, but she fails to even mention the biggest enabler of all -- Lohan's manager-mom Dina. The latter's defensive comments last August in response to criticism of her daughter's wanton ways by Morgan Creek honcho James G. Robinson spoke volumes.

says ...This is not news. Remember when she dropped out of Bill, A Woman of No Importance, and The Edge of Love back-to-back-to-back (and didn't Sienna Miller end up in two of those roles?).
I think she's been uninsurable for awhile.

says ...Funny thing is, Lohan actually got some good comments from the reviews I've read about Georgia Rule. I don't think it failed because of her diminished popularity, since I didn't really see that much of her in the ads. I saw more of Jane Fonda than I did of Lohan.
Personally, I find her case pretty sad, because it looked like she had all the promise in the world, and now she's pissing most of that away. Tossing away her Disney cred, the dramatic weight loss and the breast implants she wouldn't have needed if she kept the weight on, the excessive partying.
Course, people have come out of tailspins like this before, like Drew Barrymore. Let's hope that she does.

says ...Assuming that she can turn things around in her personal life (which is questionable) I still think that a year or two of seclusion might be the best move. Let the scandals fade.
A tanned/rested/relaxed Lohan at 23 or 24 (after a book, Oprah, etc) would probably have a shot.

says ...I actually enjoyed La Lohan in the couple films I've seen her in. Most notably Mean Girls. It is pretty disparaging to see someone young just let it all go down the drain for no good reason.
A month in rehab isn't going to solve the problem either. It seems like a band-aid solution. What she needs is to retreat from the Hollywood scene for a while. I dunno. Something's gotta be done, and I agree that she has to want to do it on her own - not just because the paparazzi like having a field day with her.

says ...This girl has seriously failed to take advantage of the mentors she's had available to her. Think of the women she has worked with in the past few years: Jamie Lee Curtis, Meryl Streep, Lily Tomlin, Virginia Madsen, Sharon Stone, Demi Moore... a lot of them started as young as she did and turned out all right. Hell, Sharon Stone survived Steve Guttenberg and Steven Seagal!

says ...I have yet to see Lohan in a good performance since Mean Girls. And that good will was 3 years ago. The girl's a mess. She's not talented, she's just tits. At least Robert Downey Jr had the talent to back up his escapades.
And for that matter he had the good sense to keep his antics entertainingly bizarre, whereas Lohan's are just tragic. Guess Svedka isn't going to be sponsoring her 21st birthday party anymore.

says ...Why do I hate Waxman so much? What did she ever do to me? Am I the only one who feels this way?
She loves taking these little shreds of evidence and connecting them into some kind of big picture that isn't actually accurate. Like when Hollywood was screwed because box office was down.
Now it's Lohan's fault that Georgia Rule stiffed when every review I read of it said she was one of the bright spots.
I'm glad someone brought up Drew Barrymore. The fact that she made many of the same mistakes but managed to survive and shape herself up is encouraging.

"Georgia Rule" failed, because it was horrible; it suffered from a lack of focus and didn't know if it should be a comedy or a serious drama. That being said, Lohan's performance was quite good.
I don't know if the "comedy" aspect of GEORGIA RULE was added in part through reshooting, but the whole film gave off the vibe that Marshall would have been more comfortable making RUNAWAY BRIDE II.

It's you, CJ,
There are very few actual, intelligent journalists who seem to be able to cover the industry without A) fearing who they might piss-off and B) giving it up to take a script-writing gig (which is why A & B go hand-in-hand). Although covering the Lohan crap seems a waste of her talents (which was probably an assignment, one hopes).

says ...Lohan has a problem with booze and drugs. Maybe she's a bonafide alcoholic/addict. At 20, she could be, but it's probably not set in stone. Her father is apparently an alcoholic. It CAN be an inherited problem. (I think they've proven that genetically.)My main concern with her sobering up at this point is that there seem to be some movie producers (including Shirley MaClaine)who are saying "Okay, we'll put the movie on hold until she's dealt with this problem and we'll shoot around her in the interim." And publicists saying, "Oh yes, she'll definitely promote the movie when it comes out in July." That's a lot of pressure on a 20-year-old who's dealing with addiction issues! If Lohan IS an alcoholic, well, she'll be dealing with that "problem" the rest of her life, I guess. In any case, it seems a lot to ask of a clearly messed up child-woman that she "get it together" sooner rather than later because millions of dollars and entire movie sets and promotional plans are biding their time waiting for her.

says ...I'm sure she will. I'm sure she'll find a husband in rehab. What else would she do there? I'm with you, T. Holly. I pray she finds a husband in rehab. When you think about it, where else would she go to look for a husband? When you contemplate upon it, what else does she need? When you consider it, finding a husband in rehab is no doubt just what she's looking for! I hope she finds a husband in rehab, too.
[I hope she finds a husband in rehab.
