Pushing on

My ten days of trying to cover the hard-slamming Cannes Film Festival, which has always involved 18-hour work days broken up by sleep periods of five or six hours, has wound to a close, even though the festival will continue for another three days including today -- Friday, 5.15. I've been hanging with Jett, who reviewed and covered for the Boston Pheonix online for the last six days, and this morning we're pushing on to Italy for a few days. I'll still do my daily filing, but from a somewhat more tranquil head-space. I did and saw many things during the festival that I haven't yet gotten into, so...

In other news, I'd be curious to see what kind of Cannes coverage all these naysayers would come up with if they were at the festival -- one person trying to get into multiple films and press conferences and standing in lines and dealing with jet lag and language barriers. But alas, they're doing other things.

Wells may spell "Phoenix" wrong, and he just doesn't get Apatow or Ferrell movies, but he'll file eventually and it'll be thoughtful and interesting instead of rushed and cursory.

granted, cannes be busy. but like most festivals, they have rooms and spaces set up for journalists. how long does it take to type out two paragraphs in an 18 hour day?

and the fact that jeff "blew off" what sounded like a very interesting press conference with the DP crew doesn't sound like he was running non-stop. i'm just sayin'.

I was in Cannes and personally saw Jeff jammed into lines snaking through the friggin' Palais and hammering people for interviews at parties and panels and I was thinking, "wow, this guy is dying for his art." He was everywhere and actually, I think his cumulative coverage for being a one man show is pretty heroic, not to mention continually worth reading. And he's a competitor!!!!

i know mick, i posted the salon story here so people could read what jeff cavalierly missed. but it sounded interesting since weinstein was trying to curtail kurt rusell etc. would have liked jeff's take and maybe he could have asked qt about his film in the way he praises/condemns it.
