Cloverfield [BLU-RAY] (Paramount Home Entertainment, 6.3.2008)
Disguised under deliberately goofy, yet deliciously edible-sounding, aliases such as Cheese and Slusho, Matt Reeves'
Cloverfield was produced and rushed into theaters under an equally appetizing shroud of secrecy. From last year's incredibly elusive Super Bowl ad to the film's viral marketing campaign,
Cloverfield had everybody scratching their heads and drooling in anticipation. Aside from the as-yet untitled title and the
Blair Witch-ian visual style, the film's biggest appeal was the enigmatic creature who was last (un)seen hurling the decapitated head of the Statue of Liberty onto the crowded streets of New York City. All we knew about the mysterious beast was that it was big and angry. Now that the highy-anticipated project has come and gone, one question has fortunately been answered:
Cloverfield was a major success.

The rumored most expensive movie in history (for 3 weeks at least), an empty headed summer tent-pole popcorn flick (not, as Jerry would say, that there's anything wrong with that) is going to "premiere" (guess it doesn't count if the majority of your "other" premiere audience isn't American) at Tribeca Film Festival.
I think that pretty much sums up what a for-profit film fest is all about, doesn't it?
(for an added bonus, how much of Spidey 3 was actually shot there? The background plates for the CGI work?)

I wish Topher would come out of the closet already, I can't see it really hurting his career.

I love that the vapid host's initial "praise" of SM3 is that it boasts "bigger graphics..."
Yikes. What the hell's a bigger graphic?

I'm sorry, but I watched only the first 20-30 seconds of it and then had to stop.
The hosts (first the brunette & then the blonde) made me want to throw up the lunch I just ate. My God I really hate that ET-style crap.
Those hosts not only look & sound dumb, but they say the dumbest things.
I'm surprised you'd actually post links to this crap Jeff!

Oh no! They didn't ask Sam Raimi if he likes George Bush or not!

Breathless, phony Hollywood reporting is the absolute worst. It kind of makes me want to hate the movie even though you can't blame Raimi for it...unless he gave $900 to these clowns.

"Stan Lee has stepped up to the plate and knocked this 3rd episode out of the park!" she says. I assume she's referring to his token cameo appearance as a mailman or gardener or whatever.

"Episode"? "Graphics"? Are these people high? Their statements sound like they were scripted by an elderly woman in 1986.
