A recently-snapped Harrison Ford on the Indy IV set; Walter Brennan during shooting of Rio Bravo in 1958. Which actor was slightly younger when these respective shots were taken?

I groaned as loudly as anyone when I heard they were really going to make Indy IV, but goddamn if seeing Ford in that hat doesn't make me want to see the movie.

Nothing good can come of it, but I can't help myself.

That photo comparison makes me think Indy 4 just might work if they play him in slightly Walter Brennan manner. Make him the most grumpy crotchety action hero of all time.

nothing brennan at all. he looks like a grizzled dr. jones. way better than i thought. it will be very cool to see what spielberg does this with this kind of movie since he hasn't done one since the 80's...and we get a new john williams indy score!

The picture of Ford doesn't do anything for me, and I love the Indy films. I hope that it is good, but I dunno...Of course if it proves all my fears were for not...but yeah...Guess we'll just have to see.

That's a great pic of Ford as Indy, he looks mid 50s at the most, comparing him to Walter Brennan is a cheap shot.

The man looks good for a 65 year old. As far as I'm concerned he still looks the part, grizzled, weary, kick ass.

Don't tell me that pci didn't renew your faith in the flick, Wells?

I have been coming to this sight less and less, because the more jeff complains, the less I come here. Jeff loves to discriminate against people because of their age, especially Mr Ford. Why? Who knows, but it just proves to me that Jeff is just an cynical, ageist assh***

Ford looks great, much better than expected. I really hope to enjoy this. The screenplay brings us fresh input from other writers besides Lucas. I'd like to think Spielberg learned a lesson from WotW and will deliver entertainment the audience craves rather than another tired sermon on fatherhood - but if Shia's Indy's son we'll face either more obsessive hangups, or "Short Round: the Fonzie Years." Regardless, can't get hopes up for a creative new Williams score - he quit exploring the "leitmotif" school of composing eons ago, and became a rather generic churner of undistinctively pedestrian soundtracks - a pale shadow of his former inventive genius when we'd walk out of the plex humming his newest classic themes. The Star Wars prequel soundtracks were flavorless, lacking any of the Wagnerian/Stravinskian brilliance of the OT's music (with maybe a hiccup thanks to Duel of the Fates). So based on precedent expect Indy 4 to have the least ambitious music of the series.

That's not true re: Williams. His scores for the recent Star Wars movies as well as for Munich, Minority Report, and Harry Potter have all been excellent. Sure, none of them are The Empire Strikes Back, but what is?

Yeah seriously Smurf, you can't be serious. Williams is still one of the best composers in the business, up there with Carter Burwell, Thomas Newman, and Clint Mansell. His MUNICH score was genius.

You guys can play it smug and hip all you want, but this picture proves the "Ford is too old" to be the nonsense it always was. Ford, at sixty something, could still kick all of your (including myself here) asses.

Or maybe he should've been replaced with some 20something no-talent that's destined to be forgotten in five years. Being in your sixties is not being dead people, and Harrison Ford and Indiana Jones were always a cut above the typical person anyway.

i agree that williams gave up composing memorable themes since JURASSIC PARK, but his STAR WARS soundtracks have been fantastic. i particularly love THE PHANTOM MENANCE score -- it's better than the movie.

The question is, will Ford show some life, or will he mumble and sleepwalk through it like he's done through practically every movie he's made since the mid 90s? He doesn't look at all bad for his age, but it's actually showing up and projecting star charm that he seems to have given up.

You know that buddy cop thriller he did...with the new kid..HOLLYWOOD HOMICIDE or whatever it was called..it was crap yes, but Ford was relaxed and quote energetic in that.

As for John Williams I loved his HARRY POTTER AND THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN score, especially that theme when Harry flies on the Griffin.

it's too bad HOLLYWOOD HOMICIDE was a 90 million dollar tv movie, because the actual interesting movie in there was about an older cop trying to give himself a nest egg. ford was good but shelton thought we'd really give a shit about which rap gang was killing whoisit...and then josh hartnett...no.

Oh, for cripes sake. "Johnny" Williams got his start scoring the original Lost in Space. People who say his recent scores are crap tend to forget that fact. He has already come a long way (although his HP stuff does sound way too much like Hook to me).

I have been waiting for awhile for Jeff to post this photo. I'm really surprised there was no crack about the double chin. Ford has looked particularly haggard to me of late, especially during that bizarre Dr. Seuss NFL preshow thing he did.

He looks better in the Indy pic than I've seen him in ages. The new movie will probably be crap, but based on the photo, you probably won't be able to blame it on Ford.
