The slow burns in the telephone booth and after he knocks down the bead curtain are classic. It's nice to see when a comedian knows how to get laughs out of (his own) silence. It's almost a lost art.

The movie seems like it's got to be weak but if it isn't it will be because Carrell elevates it.

Unless it was just a You Tube bug I thought the funniest part of the trailer was when it showed Anne Hathwaway, went to The Rock and then stuttered back to her (running in slo mo). But Carrell does do a great slow burn in the phone booth there...

They showed this trailer before the new Harry Potter movie last night, and the audience seemed to really like it. I'm skeptical, but agree Carrell is a good choice for Maxwell Smart (as is Alan Arkin for the Chief). I wonder how many of his catchphrases will make it into the movie.

When I heard that Carell was being cast as MS I thought it was an absolutely perfect choice. Who knows how good the direction/script will be but as a kid who religiously watched the show I can't wait to see this. Apparently I'm in the minority?

Carrell was trying to hard with the phone booth. It wasn't funny. I will not see this film, but I'm sure many people will. I just hope none of them live in my neighborhood. I'm growing a little tired of him; he should take a few years off and think of something new.

There's no question Carell and Arkin are great casting, and although Hathaway is a vapid twat, she at least looks like TV's 99. But let's face it, how many promising-sounding movies with amusing teasers have stunk? Way too many!

I, too, saw it at midnight in front of Harry Potter, and the crowd (800+) loved it. I love Steve Carell, and give him a free pass on Evan Almighty.

I worked three weeks on this film and I must say, it's a Peter Segal film through and through. It goes for the obvious laugh every time. It has no element of surprise. I'm sure some folks will like it- it'll be okay as a family comedy- but I personally cringed dozens of times on set while witnessing the "comedy" we were creating.

The trailer is amusing, but I'll never be able to deal with Segal as a working director. I remember a few years ago, James Garner went out of his way to trash Segal as the worst director he'd ever worked with. That seemed to sum it up pretty well.

If Carell can be his own man with heavy connotations of Don Adams, I guess people will enjoy it. An ancillary but important feature should have been a palpable sexual undercurrent with 99. Might have brought in Barbara Feldon to teach Hathaway how to purr.

And just who plays the bad guys known as "Chaos" now? Wahabists?

"Get Smart" comes from another time, another place, another Mel Brooks. Except in the minds of brand conscious MBAs, it probably should have been left alone.

Then again, I can sort of see Bush and Cheney in the "cone of silence."

One of my favorite bits from "Get Smart" is with the asian villain "The Claw," who can't pronounce the "l" so it comes out "Craw." Smart says something to the effect of "OK, Craw." Craw replies, "Not Craw, Craw!" So politically incorrect, but I still chuckle.
